I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

The action in this made-for-TV movie about the world's strongest earthquake takes place almost immediately, as it shows the collapse of the Space Needle toward the beginning. Suddenly, the entire country is in a state of panic as scientists and seismologists determine that a 10.5 earthquake followed by a series of major aftershocks and tsunamis, resulting in federal officials dealing with an influx of displaced citizens. The special effects were pretty incredible and realistic, from the collapse of the Space Needle to the crumbling of the Golden Gate Bridge onto the ocean. It's depressing, but intriguing seeing much of the country's major landmarks and cities fall to this gigantic quake, and it's suspenseful as you see the scientists scramble to find a way to counteract against the quake. It's basically non-stop disaster action and chaos from start to finish. It's pretty exciting, but the movie, unfortunately, is marred by its very sub-par and below average acting. As a result, it's not the greatest TV movie, but it's not bad for some action fun.Grade B-

Let me start by saying this is not a review, per se. I was going to write one, but was very happy to see that I didn't have to. Every one of the 20 or so reviews I read hit the nail on the head, and those nails hopefully are on the coffin of this movie. This movie was bad, left no stones unturned in its pursuit of badness, and never for more than two minutes let us forget that it was bad. That's about how often an overwhelming discontinuity, or trite piece of mockudrama, reared its head. There is nothing good to be said about this movie, because it is a Bad Movie. Now here's what I want to do. I want a Call to Action. I believe that all or most of the actors, directors, producers, writers of this movie are still alive and well. I want to call a town hall meeting where they are all called to account for this film. Sort of like a Congressional hearing, the likes of which we've been seeing lately with the bankers or the carmakers. This movie had a budget of $22 million. That's not super big budget, but it's not chump change. In some way, that's our money. That's the money we've spent on all previous films. It's money we've invested in these companies, with the thought that they will produce good movies. This, as I said, is not a good movie. We should demand action, demand that the wrongdoers be identified, and demand that those responsible are punished. There is no excuse for a film like this. Someone was sold a bill of goods, and every step along the way there were "yes men" agreeing to go ahead with it, when there had to have been over 10,000 opportunities for someone to say, "no, this can't go on." And yet no one did it; no one pulled the plug. No one stopped this disaster from occurring. I think we have the right to know what they were thinking. Anyone who wants to join me in demanding that the participants in this movie come forward, please let me know! Time is of the essence! Another disaster could be on its way!

The idea of it all was great and with a massive earthquake dividing America in half it draws you to see the movie. But once you get into the movie it starts getting cheesy. They discover an never before seen major fault line running through North America 700 km below the surface. Now as everybody knows 700 km into the surface THERE Isn't ANY SURFACE, its all just a pile of molten rock cause of the heat, it couldn't ever get any pressure to build up under the tectonic plates. Its just impossible. And the worst setback is the zooming in, zooming out part of the camera's. One second ur looking at a high image of a disaster scene, the next you see feet trampling around and pieces flying around their ears but always able to dodge every piece of it. If i can give you one piece of advice, if this is EVER on TV again, just SWITCH THE CHANNEL! It'll put you asleep when you watch it.

I have seen this movie once, but I just don't understand how any of the things that happen in the movie are physically possible, because they probably aren't. Let's see, there is a 7.9 Earthquake in Seattle, a man happens to be able to perform stunts while riding a bike down the streets and tries to out run the Space Needle and also manages to stay on his bike and ride it like there is no shaking at all. But this is only the beginning of the unrealistic stuff you see in the film. Later in Reading, California an 8.4 Earthquake occurs and a rift opens up into the ground and you also see a train. Now instead of having the hole open up and swallow the train right there, they decide to use a even funnier method and have it exactly parallel with the tracks then eventually have gravity pull the train in, also you might probably notice that the train is going the exact same speed as the earthquake to. Later in San Francisco a 9.2 Earthquake occurs causing the Golden Gate bride to collapse and what do you see, people standing up and running. If a 8.0 earthquake occurred in real life people would be immediately thrown from the ground. But the height of the unrealistic story plot is when the 10.5 earthquake hits, and practically destroys everything in California, but everything around the state is almost completely unharmed how do you explain this. Even tough they didn't do a good job with the realism it is kind of fun to watch and the science isn't as bad as the movie science in Core.
