Redwarmin This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Ketrivie It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
Mabel Munoz Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
tassos-79995 I borrowed the DVD of this movie from my public library and saw it yesterday evening. I did not have high expectations, I assumed it would be just another silly romantic comedy. However, it turned out better than expected, and I was able to watch and enjoy the whole thing to the end.Obviously, this is a fairy tale, what actually happened is that the two princesses were allowed out in a group of 16 that left at 10 PM and returned at 1 AM, with none of the ridiculous and preposterous shenanigans of the movie. But it is better than your average 'romantic comedy" which I usually borrow, watch for 5 minutes, and if it is unbearably lame, I put it back in the box and return it.The plot is, of course, preposterous, and while Margaret was the wild one and her antics might be expected, Elizabeth's behavior was most unrealistic. Also very unrealistic and inaccurate were the choices of the young actresses playing the two princesses, esp. the one playing Elizabeth, who looked little like the actress playing her (eye color, build etc)If the scriptwriter, director and esp the producer made some effort towards realism, I'd give it an 8. As is, a 7.
maineguy_04043 Great Funny Movie, if based on non events, still I enjoyed it. Wonder what the real event were like? Probably stodgy and stuck up, if only the Queen could have experienced this as written, what a time and memory she'd have. I loved the acting, esp. Margaret with her high pierced voice and the down to earth sister Elizabeth. Jack was awesome! The whole move was well done if not historically correct. I love the writers take and style on the period. I don't what more I can say besides I really liked the movie and will watch it again. I mean I can't believe how good it was.OMG 10 lines is so unreasonable when you just want to say I freaking enjoyed the movie, watch it too. You'll see how great it was!
MartinHafer I wonder if perhaps I would have really enjoyed "A Royal Night Out" a lot more if I was British. All I know is that the film, and especially the premise, left me cold. The film is based EXTREMELY loosely on the fact that Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret went out to celebrate V- E day (when the Germans surrendered to end WWII in Europe). This DID occur...but the girls were chaperoned and went in a large group...with absolutely no real free time to be common people. Margaret, by the way, was only 14. This film pretends that instead of staying with BOTH their escorts, the pair ran about London--with Margaret acting a bit like a dummy and Elizabeth spending most of the night looking for her. Yeah...whatever.Apart from the story (which didn't interest me very much), the movie DID has a nice look and they apparently tried very hard to get the look of 1945 right. But as I mentioned, it didn't interest me very much. I don't care about what MIGHT have happened if the two princesses went slumming. First, they didn't. Second, I couldn't care less about the actions of a couple spoiled royals. I guess I am too much of an oppositional American to really care about all this. Looked nice, made me laugh once or twice and well made but that's about all.
PippinInOz I understand that there is a market for cutesy, escapist films about the imaginary past. Most of us film lovers also appreciate that you adjust and accept the style of film as it begins, however:Even accounting for these things, this is really awful. The story is so wonderful in and of itself there was a genuine opportunity here to make an earthy, human film about not only Royalty but also the exhilaration felt in London (where the film is set) by people of all backgrounds. Instead of a moving and witty testament to a remarkable moment and two young princesses who were allowed to rub shoulders with the 'masses' for one night, we get a thoroughly cartoon-ish version of both Londoners and the Royal family. One dimensional characters abound here.Lazy and a waste of talent and time.
