Just so...so bad

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Sarita Rafferty
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

I never ever write reviews on movies unless they are life changingly outstanding or painfully awful. This is the latter Abandoned dead - name, cover picture and description all give the ultimate impression that this is a paranormal scare fest which is full off, well, dead people. How very misleading the whole marketing of this film is.Firstly I wish I never ever wasted my time and please do not get drawn in by the marketing it is not what you think. Film breakdown: 1. Security guard woman gets sent to an addiction clinic as a last resort. The clinic is completely empty and no plausible reason for there needing to be an over night guard there 2. Static is heard on the radio, security guard gets scared and sees some sort of hospital equipment roll across the floor (wooooo spooky) 3. The first and only hint of anything paranormal happens with an exorcist type woman's face for about 3 seconds4. Finds a skinned cat 5. Detective walking around randomly answering phone calls to a voice staring " she is not safe" 6. Detective narrates over the film his own thoughts (completely no justified reason to why he is even in the film) 7. Some doctor pops up and drugs the security guard followed by trying to perform surgery on her8. She escapes and wakes up in a mental hospital. Turns out it's all in her imagination as she has been under hypnosis. 9. Plot twist is she killed her father for abusing her. 10. Finishes off with the totally un related detective sitting at his desk. Began to wonder if I got a dodgy copy and the detective was part of another film that got somehow mixed up and ended up dropping parts into this film. I hate the producer of this film for wasting my time and money. DO NOT WATCH

Directed by Mark Curran, Abandoned Dead is a pretty great suspense thriller. When first watched as a horror film, I would have rated this lower, but despite the name and couple of goryish scenes, it's more of an introspective look into the life of a security guard who is working an extra shift, and has to deal with some psychological mystery surrounding the place she is guarding. There is some nice camera-work and lighting, some good acting, and everyone involved did a great job from cast to crew. Sarah Nicklin does a great job as the main character Rachel, who plays the security guard the movie focuses on. The atmosphere was great for what they were trying to accomplish with this film. I would definitely give this a watch if you are into suspenseful thrillers, and keep an eye out for more films from Mark Curran and team.

Its been a good movie till the very end and has a twist in the end but i wont spoil it for you as its worth the watch. To start with, the camera work has been superb and the lightening has been kept low intentionally to give it the cold horror movie feel. The camera angles have been brilliantly worked and the camera's just didn't stick to a single view for long. The actors have done justice to their roles and their expressions were in accord with the scenes and didn't go flat at any time.As far as the story goes, it starts off with a tiring guard(damn! she's hot) returning from work when she is asked for an extra shift in may-field addiction clinic. She is not alone in there as paranormal disturbances begin to manifest themselves and keeping her psychological condition in view, she is surely in for some hard time. The story seems a good base for a horror movie and haven't been stretched a lot to fill in the time. This movie is a brilliant motivation and inspiration for upcoming producers and actors to watch and learn the different methods to keep the movie lively and moving at a good pace. Also this movie is a better example of how to keep up the standard while keeping the budget in view,as its an exceptional effort for being a low budget movie.I'll recommend this one!!

Abandoned dead is a horror story about a newly vested guard on a psychiatric facility. This setup of the movie would give you the same feeling when you played "Five nights at Freddy's", the fear that you know there is something to fear but at the same time does not know what would happen next. The story would really get into turns and twists that would take different routes in the story. It does not even give you hints what would happen next. The story can truly be said to be unforeseeable and deceptive. The suspense in the movie is straight out killing it. It hooks well in the start of the suspense and thrill and it is carefully placed and triggered that you would not anticipate it nor prepare yourself. The suspense also does not hung you up with the previous scene but continually builds up until the next suspense scene. It does not leave you comfortable and relaxed about what will happen in the story. The props used in the film were also great, they were both icky and creepy at the same time. Cinematography was the key to every horror suspense movie because if the cinematography does not go well, it may not scare so much even if the story is scary. Cinematography may break the films potential to success. This story however had great cinematography, they used the color palettes well. They have used different camera angles that you would not have watched from previous horror film before. You could see an example of this new angle and panning on the scene when the guard was on the guard house right before the pizza delivery guy knocks which you would have forgotten and would have thought that another scary scene taking place. Mostly, the story line in horror films would have been disregarded and that most would focus on the cinematography and suspense for the part of the viewer. This movie however, did not throw this over board and continually built up on the story which may also be the cause of the viewer's being surprised on what would happen next. There will be also sketchy characters being introduced in the middle of the story. The story also was very misleading, the writers would drop now and then out of the blue suspense parts that would shock the viewer even more finding it is connected to the story after all. Sound effects and background music was also great in this movie. The sound used when the suspense part is starting was not that that would make you guess when it would peak. They also made a truly eerie background music that takes effect in the dark parts of the movie. The cliché part like the radio also made an effect that contributes to the eerie background. The movie does follow the standard up and down peaks of a story that makes it interesting and effective. It was very misleading and that it would not prepare you what happens next. Let me say finally, that if you want to be puzzled and scared, you should definitely watch this movie for it would really give you both.
