Synopsis

In this action picture from Ireland, Johnny T (Stuart Sinclair Blyth) from Belfast makes his living stealing cars but wants to get out of the business while luck is still on his side. However, he's been having troubles with Whacker (Gavin Kelty), a thief from Dublin who wants to take his piece of the business -- and his girlfriend. To settle their differences, the two agree to take part in a Dublin to Belfast road race, with Johnny, Whacker, and several others stealing a fleet of cars for an off-the-books rally.

Reviews

Plantiana Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Anoushka Slater While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
zinzan_ When I saw this film, I was blown away - the young actors catch the realism of the characters perfectly, and the setting/location and influence of the environment on the characters is exactly what the harsher areas of Dublin and Belfast are like. A chase/race movie on a budget that puts Hollywood to shame - it's out on DVD rental in Ireland, but not available to buy (someday please!!) Top marks, a great film.
Mikew3001 "Accelerator" is next to "Crush Proof" one of the best examples of a new Irish Cinema in the wake of "Trainspotting". It's about a bunch of teenagers nicking sports cars and doing a high speed competition race through Ireland to Dublin. A series of incidents turns the youthful "fun crime" to a catastrophe for everyone. A couple is lynched by some rednecks on the countryside, some are chased by the police, and the main actors are finally confronted with the military violence of Northern Irish religious terrorism. The actors in this movie are all young, powerful and mostly unknown. The dialogues are superb, the direction is fast-pacing, and a selection of powerful and groovy techno and alternative songs are adding a suitable sound track to this rushing adrenaline movie with a big impact. And it's much better than empty and senseless contemporary Hollywood stuff like "Driven" or "The Fast and the Furious". Big stuff!
someguyonthenet I've just seen the film in the city where it all begins (Belfast). Where to begin ? I got the strong feeling that the director (Vinny Murphy) knew how he wanted his film to end, but wasn't quite sure how to get there. The first half of the film has a confused feel, almost lacking in direction, as it were. The acting was very patchy, almost embarrassing in places. But stick with it; as the action continues, the acting improves vastly, as does the direction. As the race (from Belfast to Dublin) progresses events take a surprising, and disturbing, turn for the worse...A highly recommended insight into what is, effectively, another world. I look forward to Murphy's second film. Here's hoping it's in production as we speak.
baz-15 Bunch of dublin scangers and their belfast scanger pals have a race from belfast to dublin , whoever gets to the pope's cross in the phoenix park first wins all the money (i think it's 1200 quid). We meet some interesting characters-wacker, who is the tough guy of the dublin gang and is an illiterate psychopath; crunchie, whose diet consists of nothing but crunchie bars (talk about product placement); anto who is a mellow myopic geek and is the most lovable of the characters; And Johnny T from belfast who is in a spot of trouble with the provos and wants to move to Barcelona. There isn't too much 'racing' in the film, it's more concerned with what happens to each car separately. Backed up by pounding factory beat type music and a spot of easy listening for anto of course. On the whole-deadly!Rapidd!! Leave your brain at your gaff and enjoy the ride 7/10
