This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

The silent take away their life without anyone knowing to save them and the loud are drama queens who want attention and are not serious in taking away their life is the message I got from the movie.
The drama queen wants attention from her mother. Her mother doesn't want to face her because she resembles her father, which is a painful memory for her. Grandpa reuniting all to face each other slowly heals the pain.

This is a pretty decent coming of age teen movie starring Hillary Duff. Nicely shot, lovely costumes and make up and a good performance from Duff as a stroppy teen who gradually learns to love and be loved. It's not her usual Disney style role, she actually exhibits a quirky character with some substance which most of us that went through adolescence should be able to relate to. Fairly bland story line but if you're looking for a feel-good movie with a bit of teen romance then you can't go wrong with Surviving Summer (or According to Greta, the original title). Overall it's about a girl finding her way and learning that if you look hard enough, you can find you have something in common with anyone and you don't have to feel alone. It's a short run time, an easy watch, it all looks good and there are some funny, some heartwarming moments.

I have a lot of movies about which I can say "This film is really good! Excellent! One of my favorites". But if somebody ask me what is the best movie for me of the best, about the movie, without which I can't live, I will answer - "Greta". I watched it in November 2009 and every week I am watching it. Since that date. Because I can't imagine myself without "Greta". I knew about it because of one of my favorite actresses- Hilary Duff. She is definitely one of the best actresses (for me), because I like the way she acts. It is a story of Greta, whose mother is again "trying to save her marriage number nine", and she have to spend her whole summer in Jersey. Isn't Siberia the place they send you to die? And from her experience Ocean Groove isn't that much different. She will spend her summer with grandmother and grandfather, in their mausoleum, where it always smells like dessicated socks. She is always alone. She is rebellious. And she wants to die. She has her "To-die list" and "To-do list". This summer will show her what a real life means. Hilary Duff is awesome. This movie is like "Georgia Rule" starring Lindsay Lohan - I also like this film. Hilary plays very good by emotions and voice. Nobody can act like she does. I believed her, I believed Greta. Her partner Evan Ross was also very good at his role - romantic, prudent, charming... I saw pain in his eyes, love and forgiveness. This movie is an incredible one. I can't live without it. I need it. I fell it. Every moment. "Greta" is for lovers. "Greta" is for me.

I watched this movie with my daughter last night. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. Watch Georgia Rule instead if you like movies about growing up daughters. The character Greta is such an unsympathetic character (Is she playing herself?) that we both (young and old!) found it painful to watch. The whole story/dialog is not credible. We just kept going so we felt entitled to write this review. Painful also because we could not understand why a girl of 17 (also not credible, sorry Hillary) would consistently behave like she did and then all of a sudden turn soft on a random person. We did like the performance of the grandparents specially Ellen Burnstyn's performance. Can you imagine that you send a daughter who is like Greta to your elderly parents. That could be considered cruel, in fact it is just not credible again. We both do like serious/confronting movies but this is not one in that category.
