Synopsis

Lil and Roz are two lifelong friends, having grown up together as neighbors in an idyllic beach town. As adults, their sons have developed a friendship as strong as that which binds their mothers. Inclubabu Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
MamaGravity good back-story, and good acting
Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
masonfisk When bad Aussie drama meets Ingmar Bergman, you have Adore. Two lifelong friends decide to sleep with each other sons for what reason? I don't know. With nary a hint of regret or conflict, these affairs go on with the redundancy of food prep. Coming from the writer of Dangerous Liaisons, Christopher Hampton, one feels his heart is not in this exercise. Watch Damage with Jeremy Irons to see this notion better realized.
Sil I have not read the book, so I don't know if the failure comes from it or from the screenplay. But the ending of the film, to me, is utterly unconvincing, and destroys the good impression I had of it.I can't believe for a second that Tom and Lil are stupid enough to think they can get away with copulating while everybody is at Roz. It is utterly unbelievable, as the film has made it clear throughout that they had more than an IQ of 60.Conversely, I can't believe they are evil enough to have done it on purpose, to destroy two families. In addition, I find it hard to believe that all the following are true at the same time: A. Tom decides to be unfaithful to his wife just weeks after his marriage. B. Lil is fine with it and a willing participant. C. Neither Roz nor Tom have any inkling of the affair happening under their nose, with people they know like no other. D. Tom is such a coward that he is fine with being unfaithful, doesn't break up his marriage as soon as possible, doesn't break it up at the beginning of his wife pregnancy nor after his daughter is born.Otherwise, the film is fine. Naomi Watts and Robin Wright are perfect, the sons are very good, as is Ben Mendelsohn and the other characters. The photography is top not. The music is rather boring and uninspired though.
atlasmb Many of the reviews for this film seem polarized. Either they find it heroic or they despise it. I don't think it deserves either response. The story explores the results of two contentious and dangerous relationships. There is suspense because there is an element of inevitability and it's just a matter of WHEN the house of cards collapses due to a mistake or poor judgment. The acting is good. The conflicting feelings are believable. The writing is good--not because it advocates a point of view, but because it allows the characters to travel on a journey that feels possible and, sometimes, probable. The film is set on beachfront property and it provides a beautiful and natural background that is also sensual. There are many story lines what could have been cheesy or pandering, but the film remarkably feels set in a reality of consequences.
Andrew Collins (talktorenza) How many guys have fantasised about being with their best friends mother? Well this film takes that fantasy and brings it to reality. If you have ever watched a pornographic movie where sons get it on with friends mothers this is the basic concept for this movie. Reviews are mainly opinion's and not facts but any review under seven stars can lead viewers to believe that factually the film won't be that interesting a watch. Well despite the major negative critics reviews the film is actually pretty good and the character's aren't just one dimensional statues. I'll keep it vague as to not spoil your viewing pleasure of this film too much. A basic synopsis of the story is that one of the sons falls in love with his best friend's mother and they end up having sex. His friend finds out and gets back at him by doing the same thing vice versa and sleeping with his friend's mum out of spite. Everything starts of awkward and then comfort sets in as all parties involved in this sexual orgy of young guys and "milfs" get used to the idea and the sex begins to feel like a fix. It then becomes complicated when one of the guys begins sleeping with another woman his own age which leads this unspoken agreement to gradually come to an end. I would say some scenes can drag on and they could have dived deeper into how something as strange as their four way relationship made everyone in the group feel because that's not something that happens every day. Anyway I definitely would say that I 'adore' this film and the artistic way that they turned an act of slightly incestuous debauchery into a story of emotion, passion and love my rating is 7.5/10 and I would urge anyone sceptical because of the original rating to take a chance and watch it.
