2hotFeature one of my absolute favorites!
SteinMo What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Delight Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
Neddy Merrill Bandslam is an almost shockingly engrossing and thoughtful movie recalling some near-classics as ?Revenge of the Nerds?, ?Say Anything?, ?Breakfast Club? and most especially ?High Fidelity.? The presence of Disney regular Alyson Michalka and Vanessa Hudgens always the marketers to frame this as ?High School Musical 4? which puts asses in the seats but short-changes what is actually a more far more substantial and less sticky sweet concoction. Also it deals with a few dark themes, their presence makes the happy ending feel earned and you?ll leave the theater elated, repeating some dialog gems and humming David Gates ?Everything I Own.? The only major shortcoming are the voices of Hudgens and Michalka who are plenty tuneful for the ballads but lack the pipes that balls out rock numbers require. However, if they weren?t in the film no one would have seen it so the compromise may be worth it.
ptbartman People ask me what I think makes a good movie and I say simple, tell me a good story and tell it to me well. This movie delivers on both counts. The script is like a great hand of Texas hold em. We've seen stories like this a hundred times from the Karate Kid to High School Musical. That's your hole cards. But each time you know what you got, the "dealer" flips another card and it's a whole new hand. Disney (said in a good way) enough for tweens, edgy enough for teens and adults. And "the river card", the ending, well lets just say it surprised me (more than once) and that's saying a lot. Performances were solid especially when you consider that most of the key roles were played by musicians who act as opposed to actors playing musicians.
retrochick57 At first,i thought this movie was going to be pretty lame, but who am i to judge when i haven't seen it?so i decided to go watch this movie with my sister and my best friend.surprisingly,it was one of the most inspiring movies i ever saw.the whole plot was pretty predictable but the actors played their parts pretty well.Vannessa could have been better because her voice kept slipping most of the time but anyways the story was really nice and had a nice flow.some parts were slow, like when Will kept talking on and on to David bowie but there has to be errors somewhere in a movie.this movie was pretty good.i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys rock or just full out teen dramas.
me-ga-sa I was expecting something stupid but in fact that was good. As there was Vanessa Hudgens in this movie I was expecting some crap like High School musical. I hated it and Vanessa's character. I thought she can't act but just smile and show her pretty face. But in here I loved her character, that was something different and lovable! And it was at last some comedy I could actually laugh at because lately I was watching movies tagged as comedies and they are were seriously not funny you can cry. I enjoyed watching it, it wasn't cheap. The bad side was music. It wasn't that good. I was expecting that group to make some hit but the song they used for the contest was bad, it hurt my ears. It could be better if it was played differently and Vanessa's voice was out of topic, it was too weak for the song.
