Interesteg What makes it different from others?
Ensofter Overrated and overhyped
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
view_and_review This was a good movie but I still contend that my favorite subterranean movie is "The Descent". "Beneath" had some good cinematography with the darkness and the pervasive closed in and claustrophobic feeling in the collapsed mine. There was a lot of suspense and heart pounding moments as well.Where this movie failed, and not immensely, is by following the same tropes that most scary movies follow. When the movie started a rescuer stated that he found a survivor. As soon as I saw the cast of characters going down the mine I immediately knew who that survivor was. To be fair, that survivor wasn't unscathed but the survivor was predictable nonetheless. Along with the survivor cliché there was the cliché of cowards die and heroes die; the only difference is that cowards die screaming and heroes die honorably.Besides the age old clichés this movie was strong. I liked the acting, the set, the story and the tension created. If only they could shake the predictability.
Theron Harris I really enjoyed this movie for what it was. There were some really good scenes and for a horror movie it really gets the job done. With that being said there are some faults. Many parts of the movie remain unexplained. I feel as if the script was changed about halfway through. Some parts were mentioned and do not really tie into the rest of the movie. I feel as if the director didn't really have a clear picture of what he wanted to go for. Don't take this as a stab at the director in the least, I still enjoyed the movie, it just lacked a solidified plot. It doesn't really detract from the movie in my opinion. I just feel like there could have been a scene in which it was clearly explained (because there were multiple options.) In an attempt to avoid spoilers I'll just leave it at that. If you want a movie with a really ominous feel to it I'd recommend at least giving it a single viewing. Keep in mind that if you're a picky movie watcher this won't be for you.---------Camera shots: I did notice some pretty nice camera shots in this movie, some were really cliché in a good way. It really gave you a feel of what the director was going for.Lighting: Gets an A+. I felt like the lighting was really well done for this movie. The lighting is really what put me INTO the movie. I felt a tiny chill anytime it started to get dark in one of the tunnels and the light that was there was always on its mark, showing what was needed and avoiding what wasn't.Sound (Synchronous): Many of the lines seemed well thought out in terms of plot and character development, you could really tell each characters role in the movie (there were a couple questionable lines here and there but overall not bad).Sound (Asynchronous): Nothing special in the music. This won't be a Hans Zimmer tier score in the slightest but did manage to fill the silence.Editing: Nothing special good or bad. Nothing that especially stuck out in the movie or made it seem choppy.Composition: Seemed to be slightly overlooked. Seemed some things were added to the scene on a whim instead of having every piece being well placed and thought out.-----Sorry for like the novella of a review, I just felt like these were things that people had been overlooking in their own reviews and should be seen before deciding whether or not to watch the movie. I personally had nothing against the movie. With that being said there was nothing to make this movie above par.
Flow So much better than expected, cause lets face it, we have a horror about a group of miners that get trapped under some rocks and when the terror stars no monsters are involved. It is about the horror of the situation, of how people react there, what they do, how they see things, therefore, this one feels quite natural.Beneath is one of the best ones on this subject and even tho people compare it with The Descent or even The Cave, I personally think it has a lot more to do with Haute Tension. If you saw that one and you'll get to watch this one too, you'll make the connection trust me. Is it that predictable? Well, at least for half of movie you'll get a few scratches on your head but indeed eventually it kinda becomes obvious where this one is heading, but it won't ruin it for you. You'll still find yourself there, waiting to see more, how it ends, maybe even hoping for a more decent conclusion.Anyway I gladly recommend this one, I had a lot of fun watching it and I am very excited that I got to put an eye on Beneath. Lovely execution, very good acting and a few good scares.Cheers!
hudsonda4 This movie only got those three stars because of the supporting actors who were actually pretty good. The director went with shaky camera, flashing lights that last too long, in the darkness that lasts too long, and way too long of a build before anything happens. I mean seriously, you put 6 full minutes of flashing lights and darkness into 80 minutes of movie? The main character sucks at acting. And there is nothing scary in this movie. Nothing. Note even a cheap thrill scare. The other reviewers talked about the claustrophobia of the cave....... But that doesn't do anything for those of us who aren't claustrophobic.
