Synopsis

In 1989, six year old Martin Bristoll was kidnapped from his backyard swing in Minersville Pennsylvania. Graham Sutter, a psychotic recluse, kept Martin imprisoned on his derelict pig farm, forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horrors. Chosen at random, his victim's screams were drowned out by the rural countryside. For five years, Martin's whereabouts have remained a mystery, until 17 year old Allison Miller comes to live with her Uncle, Jonathan. While exploring her new surroundings, Allison discovers things aren't quite right at the farmhouse down the road. Her curiosity disturbs a hornet's nest of evil and despair that once torn open, can never be closed.

Breakinger A Brilliant Conflict
Maidexpl Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
Billie Morin This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
Sienna-Rose Mclaughlin The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Leofwine_draca Apparently BEREAVEMENT is the prequel to another slasher flick, MALEVOLENCE, although I haven't seen that film. Not that I'm missing much, as this turns out to be the most routine horror film ever. The story tells of a guy in a 'creep van' who rides around abducting young women and murdering them in an abandoned slaughterhouse. There's a twist involving the killer's abduction of a small boy who he plans to make his apprentice, but it's hardly much of a twist; the ending is predictable from a mile off. So what do we have in a film devoid of originality, interesting characters, and entertainment value? The answer is Michael Biehn. The TERMINATOR star plays the supporting role of the heroine's uncle, proving solid amongst a mix of humdrum acting turns. Although, I have to say, that Alexandra Daddario stands out (for a couple of prominent reasons) as a modern-day scream queen, playing virtually the same role here as her later one in Texas CHAINSAW 3D. The actor playing the villain is weak, though, and the kill scenes are vicious, mean-spirited and unappetising, with little of merit for anyone who's seen anything even halfway similar.
vengeance20 So, after watching Malevolence. I watched this prequel which in this film, follow the events of how Martin Bristol became a killer & where he learnt the twisted techniques in committing these acts! The film wasn't a disappointment! It was gory! It was intense & lives up to it's 18 certificate! The stabbing scene near the end with Allison proved that! The torture scenes were a far better improvement! The death scenes overall were intense & bloody! Just how I like them to be!I also liked how this film shows what became of Martin & how a boy with no feelings became a killer! I also liked the references to Psycho & Texas Chainsaw massacre & how they pay homage to them!Overall a 10/10! This was ace!
bowmanblue I watched Bereavement due to it having Michael Biehn in. Despite never quite living up to his potential after the success of Terminator and Aliens, he normally puts in a solid supporting performance in whatever he's in.Bereavement tells the story of a young boy who's kidnapped by a serial killer and forced to watch as the man executes one girl after another. Nice. After five years, a seventeen year old girl moves to down after her parents were tragically killed in a car crash. She starts to discover the 'terrible secret.' There's nothing too revolutionary about the whole 'small town serial killer' premise, but it starts out with reasonable promise. I was quite enjoying it and wondering what all the negative reviews were talking about (and there are many if you care to look online). However, what starts off as possibly an enjoyable serial killer flick, descends into one daft plot hole after the next and soon I found I was actually laughing at how stupid everything turns out to be.I know you have to suspend your disbelief to watch most horror films, but this one is too much. Here, if you're interested, are a few 'spoilers:' the killer drives round the town slowly in the most beat-up distinctive van imaginable, abducts a child and drives off. No one notices this. There appear to be no police in the town who bother to investigate this possibility and look into the loner who's still living in an abandoned slaughter house. This killer then abducts local girls at an alarming rate. No one actually notices or seems to bother investigating. We are told at the very beginning of the film that a child who cannot feel pain due to an illness MUST be checked every hour on the hour for cuts etc that he is unable to notice. Yet, he can then go on to live for five years quite healthily with a serial killer in a grimy old warehouse with no medical attention whatsoever.Sadly, these plot holes come thick and fast and just become annoying. About the only real thing Bereavement has going for it is the scenery, which is indeed well shot and atmospheric. Unfortunately, it's just too hard to believe to truly enjoy.Probably best to avoid.Oh, and if you do decide to give it a go - turn the volume down. Seriously, this film has more women screaming than any other film I think I've watched.
rivertam26 I was a big fan of the fllm Malevolence of which this film is a prequel too. Well despite some better production values it doesn't even hold a candle to that film. Filled with an unnecessary amount of violence overkill we learn the roots of how the killer in the first one came to be. The other actors/victims in the film are decently developed and are surprisingly solid for a genre film. The direction and screenplay are the problem film. Besides looking gorgeous the film doesn't any real gratification the killers story is somewhat developed but the real truth is never explored. The film is kept as realistic as possible and is very mean. Building characters only to tear them down brutally for no real reason. the evolution of the events aren't very satisfying and the over abundance of shameless gore and pointless nudity feels crude. The best thing I can say about the whole downer experience is that it's well made and looks pretty besides that there's not much to offer here that you haven't seen before and explored more in depth and less bitingly.
