Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.

I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

Monster movie comedy about a giant spider running amok in downtown LA. Great title, full credit for that, plus there are a few fun gory moments. However I felt that this film tries too hard to be funny but much of the time it just falls short. There are far, far worse creature features out there, but at the same time I felt that this one is average at best. At least it is relatively short so it does not out stay it's welcome. Nice little Lloyd Kauffman cameo.

BAS is a good FUN movie with no pretensions. Laugh out loud silliness is achieved without going too far over the top. A balancing act that is not easily pulled off.Big Ass Spider have a writer and director who are blessed with the ability to mix B-Grade movie ingredients together correctly. Decent CGI, great lead character, tongue-in-cheek direction and pure entertainment gives the audience what they want.Only people who take life way too seriously will not enjoy this film.So good on so many levels.

A monster film plenty of impressive scenes , frenetic action and humor . A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampage the city of Los Angeles . When a massive military (commanded by Major Braxton : Ray Wise and Lt. Karly Brant : Clare Kramer) strike fails , it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed . Meanwhile , the bloodthirsty spider meet up local citizens and spontaneously catch them and begins to consume people . Later on , the gigantic spider over a skyscraper surrounded by planes shooting similarly to ¨King King¨ movie . The gigantesque spider rapidly multiplies and the protagonists confronting with them , being L. A. town devastated by the attacks . When Downtown Los Angeles , including City Hall , under attack , an eclectic bunch led by bug/pest exterminator Alex Mathis(starring "Heroes" alumni Greg Grunberg) along with a security agent called Jose Ramos (Lombardo Boyar) and Army Lieutenant (Clare Kramer) take on the evil spiders . This monster/comedy film with medium budget packs thrills , some good action and funny moments . It's a hybrid of monster movies from the 50s such as 'Tarantula' and modern American production plenty of C.G.I. The thrilling screenplay is a bit yawn-inspiring but nifty special effects will keep you from dozing off , with nice creatures designers, created by means of Animatronics and computer visual effects . This is a suspenseful and amusing Sci-Fi/thriller/comedy especially at the amazing ending tableau when Greg Grunberg , Lombardo and Clare Kramer have to tackle the gigantic spider in the final . The picture was professionally directed by Mike Mendez (¨The killers¨, ¨The Conven," "Masters of Horror" ¨, ¨The Gravedancers¨) with rather too much camera movement and there are also lots of low-angle shots of people hanging around waiting to get bitten by the carnivorous spider . This Mike Mendez's newest film "Big Ass Spider!" for Epic Pictures premiered at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival and had a limited theatrical worldwide . Although nothing which haven't been seen before, this is not the picture to watch if you are scared of spiders , however the movie is quite entertaining . Utterly arachnophobia people must flee this film.Other movies about this Spider sub-genre are the followings : ¨Tarantula (1955)¨ by Jack Arnold with John Agar ; ¨Tarantula: the deadly cargo (1977)¨ with Claude Akins ; ¨Kingdom of spiders (77)¨ by John Budd Cardos with William Shatner , ¨Arachnophobia(1990)¨ by Frank Marshall with John Goodman , ¨Arachnid¨ (2000) by Jack Sholder with Chris Potter , Jose Sancho , Neus Asensi and ¨Eight Legged Freaks¨ (2002) by Ellory Elkayem with Scarlett Johansson , Kari Wuhrer , and David Arquette .

After a military experiment results in a giant, monster-sized spider getting loose in downtown L.A., an exterminator and his assistant team up with the military to try to stop it before it destroys the city. This is an incredibly enjoyable and enthusiastic monster movie that gets a lot right throughout. One of the biggest marks for it is the fact that there's just such a fun and hilarious attitude throughout this one that manages to weave throughout here and become a part of the movie's enjoyable charm. From the near-constant stream of really enjoyable one-liners to the general plot line about a gigantic alien spider running amok in Los Angeles and the rather funny side-characters that are a part of the different encounters throughout the story here, it all makes for a rather funny time here and generally makes the movie more enjoyable as the goofy tone matches the goofy action and story being treated here which is what makes for a consistent and entertaining effort. That also makes the action throughout this one a lot of fun with it's constant and seemingly never-ending series of battles against the spider as the hospital attack, rampage through the park, the chase through the winding mountain road and eventually the full confrontation in the city manage to make for a series of exciting and enjoyable action scenes that are full-on enjoyable with their mix of extreme cheese, high-energy base and continued usage of comedy to help make the situation stand out even moreso than usual with rather grandiose flair. The city attack is even more noteworthy for the incredible amount of destruction it unleashes before getting to the battle with the armed forces, taking out all manner of buildings, roadways and others along the way before getting to the final battle, which comes off as rather funny and yet ingenious at the same time. That said, it's tendency to constantly go for the joke instead of taking things serious, as the fact that a giant man-eating spider is loose in a giant metropolitan city is a pretty serious matter and shouldn't be taken lightly no matter how goofy it takes itself, this feeling does undermine the film at the wrong times when they unleash yet another joke instead of trying to take the situation as anything but and it does come off as a little much. As well, the constant CGI utilized for the spiders do make for a rather bland and wholly unsatisfying monster with it's rather obvious fakery and blatant insertion into scenes when it doesn't line up with the human interactions against it. Otherwise, this one becomes a rather fun and entertaining blast of a monster movie.Rated PG-13: Violence and Language.
