Excellent, a Must See

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

I actually had fairly high hopes for Bloodlock, the premise seemed decent and for the first 20-30 minutes it showed real potential. It tells the story of a husband and wife who move into a new house (And her sister moves in as well for some reason). In the buildings basement there is a mysterious locked metal door and the wife becomes obsessed with it. What lies within?I'll tell you right now what lies within, disappointment! And shed loads of it.Though it starts strong it stumbles and falls the moment that anything actually "Happens". The lack of competent direction and small budget become evident and the movie goes from stumbling to falling to faceplanting in quick fashion.Alas it never manages to get back up again, in fact gradually gets worse and worse. Then just went you think it can't get any poorer, it hits you with a finale that had my eyes roll so far back into my head I could physically see my brain crying.Bloodlock is another example of a good idea in the hands of folks who simply shouldn't be in the industry. To quote Billy Madison I award you zero points and may god have mercy on your soul. Feel free to pick any of the 4000 gods you want for that one.The Good:Some good ideasThe Bad:Some of the cast are dreadfulThat's the ending you're gonna go with, really?Looks cheap and nastyAbsolutely no flowThings I Learnt From This Movie:Heroines lose credibility if they hook up with another guy within hours of their boyfriend getting killed

The plot of "Bloodlock" (2008) revolves around vampire locked in the basement of a house for decades and is unleashed when a couple purchases the home. The story is complicated by a love triangle wherein the husband wants to gaslight his wife for her sister who thinks she's hotter than she is, as well as a subplot involving an occultic old couple who will do anything to attain the immortality the imprisoned vampire offers.I knew this was a no-budget independent movie before viewing and, with this in mind, the opening is promising, but it quickly devolves from there due to a lousy script, bad acting, bad flow (in certain sequences) and effects that are anything but special. It's more like a student movie than a legitimate independent film and, overall, is bottom-of-the-barrel filmmaking. That said, there are quite a few things I appreciate. For one, I enjoy seeing the work of amateur filmmakers and I think the director has what it takes but, in this case, he needed to hire a real writer, better actors and an FX technician, not to mention cut out filler material that pads the runtime. I also enjoyed the Youngstown, Ohio, area locations of which the director doesn't really take advantage. As it's filmed, it could've been shot in any big town in the Northern USA or Canada.A couple of the actors are actually decent despite the lousy script, particularly the main protagonist, Christine, played by the distinctive Ashley Gallo, and, less so, the guy who plays Luke the locksmith. Ashley could go on to better things if she plays her cards right. The movie runs 89 Minutes.GRADE: D

I really liked the premise, which is why on a DVD set of eight films, this was the first one I watched. I liked the idea of a mysterious door in the basement that could not be open. As soon as I saw the door, though I was instantly disappointed. I was expecting something more of a throwback film, but this door was bright and shiny. Then the couple moves in to this house and there is a horrible subplot involving the sister. Then the film had the look of being very amateurish, the look that screams made for very little money. Granted, 100,000 could pay all my bills and help me and my girlfriend find a really nice house and still have money left over. So I cannot be too kind here, to me it was not money well spent. The story had something to it, and at times the film seemed to be somewhat enjoyable, but then after the door was opened the film seemed to not have any direction at all. It kind of meandered here and there...almost as if they were simply trying to stretch out the premise and pad the film. Basically, there is a door and the wife obsesses over it while the husband and the wife's sister have an affair. An old couple wants whatever is in the room and are willing to go to any means to get it. What we get is a vampire that looks like he comes from our era, but he has been locked in the room for 40 years or something. This film just goes on and on after the interesting premise is laid to rest when the door is opened. Needless romantic plot lines, the compulsion of the vampire to get the one girl and the horrid ending that is my most hated cop out endings!!! Not going to say what it is, but wake me when it's over. Still, I do wish to credit the filmmakers for making a somewhat interesting film up to the door opening and the head tearing off kill...while it looked fake and cheesy, it also made me think of the kills in an Italian gore movie. They just needed more...perhaps better camera equipment and much better actors and actresses. Some of those line reads were cringe worthy.

Alright, so first off, I try really hard not to "bag" on movies and as an avid horror buff, I try to find some redeeming qualities. With that being said, this movie is slightly entertaining. I liked the whole concept of evil locked in the basement, it reminded me of Blood Creek. That is where the similarities end. The female lead was convincing and a decent actress, the man who played her husband and sister were TERRIBLE! The make-up for the evil Vamp was pretty cheesy, but I do enjoy the "pirrahna mouthed" vamps as opposed to the "two pointy teeth" vamps. They look more menacing when it seems they could chew your face off as opposed to to just a double puncture throat suck. lol I've got to be honest though, this flic was free on hulu so I started watching, I did however skip a lot of parts. The only way I'd recommend this flic is if you were having a vampire themed party, were getting hammered, and could leave it on in the background while playing twister. Good effort on the parts of the producer/director and cast. Keep practicing with some polish this one would've been a lot better(and with a budget)
