Married Baby Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Michael_Elliott Blood Suckers from Outer Space (1984) * (out of 4)A failed photographer and a hot lady somehow (and unbelievably) run into one another while in Texas and before long they are heading out to see his relatives. It turns out that they have already turned into "blood suckers from outer space" as well as other farmers. The two must try and battle the creatures without turning into them as well.Look, comedy is a very subjective thing. There's no question about that and I'm sure there are many people out there who fell for the charm of this movie and really love it. Yes, it's poorly acted, has awful sets and at times is poorly made but I'm pretty sure all of this was on purpose. I'm sure many will love the low-budget look and style of the picture but sadly it just didn't work for me.What can I say? The comedy and the attempt at spoofing these type of low-budget horror movies just didn't work for it. I understood what the film was going for and I give the filmmakers credit for it but the only thing is that the film never really grabbed me to the point where I fell for its humor and enjoyed what I was watching. It's really as simple as that.Usually when I give a film such a low rating it means that I hated the picture for one reason or another but that's certainly not the case here. It's just better to say that I didn't connect with the film but I'm sure others will. I will say that I loved the look of the creatures and the no-budget gore effects were nice.
Scott LeBrun Make no mistake, "Blood Suckers from Outer Space" *is* fun, but wasn't as much fun for this viewer given the value of that great schlock title. One would expect lots of campy entertainment from a movie bearing that title, but there's just too much talk and not enough action. However, when things get interesting, there's good times to be had. They're just largely saved for the last quarter of the movie. The no-name cast has the offbeat task of looking very serious a lot of the time, but sometimes dropping that seriousness in favour of a playful wink at the audience. There are some very amusing instances of breaking the fourth wall. The gore is as tacky as one could wish for, and the soundtrack is catchy, especially that new wave rock title theme song.Thom Meyers plays Jeff Rhodes, an amiable Texan hoping to make a living as a photographer, which puts him at odds with his farmer uncle Joe (Robert Bradeen). Making the acquaintance of comely stranger Julie (Laura Ellis), who gives him a lift when his car has a flat, he soon makes the discovery that a strange alien force - manifested as wind - is transforming the peaceable country folk into bloodthirsty ghouls. While Jeff and Julie simply try to survive, a gung-ho Army general named Sanders (Dennis Letts) thinks he knows how to take care of the problem.Goofy fight scenes, a sometimes priceless music score (by Rick Garlington, who also plays Major Hood), endearing lead characters, and that irresistible no budget flavour of a regional horror flick help to make this reasonably enjoyable. Token name actor Pat Paulsen contributes a knowing cameo as a randy U.S. president, and is a hoot to watch. Letts, who made his film debut here and became a prominent local character actor (also turning up in things like "A Perfect World" and "Passenger 57"), is solidly entertaining in his role. All things considered, this is agreeable enough and funny enough to sit through for a fairly trim 82 minutes.Six out of 10.
Obituary99 It's been years since I saw this movie and for one I must say this is one of the lamest but greatest horror movies of all time. The acting is bad and the props are corny but honestly I love this movie dearly. If I had a copy of it I would never sell or trade it for anything. It's been twelve years since I've seen it but if you ever come across this movie rent it or buy it! I must say this is one of a kind. the reason why I loved this movie is because the creators didn't take this project to seriously. To me they did it for fun and for a good time.If you don't like low budget horror flicks stay away but I'm telling you, if you pass this movie up you'll be kicking yourself later. Where is Anchor Bay Entertainment when you need them! DVD Please! 10 stars out of 10 stars!
NewSilver21-1 I completely have no idea why this movie was made. But there are lots of movies out there like that. This one is very weird but yet so interesting. You can tell straight up it's a B-movie. I mean really low budget, and bad acting. The reason why I say it's so interesting is because if I remember correctly the disease that turned people into bloodsucking zombies was an invisible gas that floated around town looking for victims. Um...yeah strange isn't it. But the make up and gore effects were alright. Hey if I could work on a low budget horror flick this would be it. I'm not sure that you can still find this movie, it's way out of print. And for all those people out there who hate this movie, you might hate me for what I'm about to say. This should be released on DVD. Maybe Anchor Bay will pick it up. Oh well, if not then it's no biggy. On a scale from 1~10, I give this a 5.
