As a fan of "The Bad Seed" movie and book I had to see this movie. Instead of 1 we have now 3 kids who were born during a full moon. That's actually the only reason that is given why they do lack a conscience. Fine with me, "The Bad Seed" never explained why Rhoda was born evil anyway. As expected BB went for a higher killing rate which were all shown on screen (The Bad Seed all happened of screen in comparison). But it definitely isn't slasher as little detail is shown. Okay the killings are somehow entertaining but the movie lacks in story and character development. The only ones who are somehow developed and actually bothering to find out who does the killing and get suspicious about the 3 are Joyce (played by the beautiful Lori Lethin) and her little brother Timmy. The 3 bad kids do a good job especially Curtis (Billy Jayne is also the only one getting a real film career after this) the kid with glasses who seems pretty eager to go for killings and doesn't fear to act out on his own without help from the other 2. He seems smart but towards the end gets a bit too confident. Than there is blonde Steven who is easily the least interesting. He has that mean look on his face but he is actually a follower, never acting on his own and really has no clue what to do unless the other 2 instruct him. That leaves Debbie, blonde and cute girl. She does resemble Rhoda from "the Bad Seed" most not only in appearance but also the way she performs the killings. She seems to have much more of a motive, does it in a much more clever way than the other 2 .

This movie sure does cross some boundaries for it's time. The concept of a group of murdering kids would be very chilling in the early 80's. Children are always thought of pure and innocent and to see them in adult situations tips the scales. It gives you an unknown "x" factor in life and makes you think. This movie is a true gem. It is a moving force in the evolution of 80's horror. This film is in typical quality of that time and with equally typical bad acting. Although avid watchers of 80's horror are not watching this genre for the acting and quality. We are watching for the abstract ideas,kill scenes and the aura the movie propels. This movie is definitely in the top category of the 80's horror dynasty. I recommend this film. It's a feel good movie of kids vs. adults through grainy sequencing and low back light. Enjoy.

Lacking consciences because they were born during a solar eclipse, a trio of 10-year-olds embark on an indiscriminate killing spree.This is such a strange film. Because of the time it was released and the title, I figured it was a slasher film. It is not -- it is a "killer kids" film. That threw me off, expecting something else. But, that being said, it is not a bad movie and the premise is certainly something different.I enjoyed how frustrating it was for the heroine to know these kids were evil but there was little she could do about it. How do you tell people that 10-year olds are murderous miscreants? No one will believe that.Elizabeth Hoy, the killer girl, gave up acting while still a child (she apparently is now a hairdresser, happily married with kids of her own). This is too bad for us, as she clearly was the best actor of the three kids and I think there was a promising future for her.

***SPOILERS*** With the exception of veteran actors Jose Ferrer and Susan Strasberg as the doctor and teacher the cast of the pre-teenage or midget horror flick "Bloody Birthday" is made up of mostly unknowns. Still it packs quite a wallop in having a trio of sweet and innocent looking just about to be 10 year old adolescents go on a murder spree that would rival those of the likes of real life adult serial murders like Ted Bundy and David Berkowitz!The three little psychos Debbie Curtis & Steven, Elizabeth Hoy Billy Jayne & Andy Freeman, were all born at the exact same time, June 9,1970, when there was a triple conjunction of the Sun Moon and planet Saturn! Were told by Joyce Russel, Lori Lethin, who did the three's horoscope that the planet Saturn controls a person emotions Which by that planet being blocked out of the picture or the zodiac left the three little "darlins" without any human emotions at all! For some reason not explained at all in the movie it's their soon to be 10th birthday that's to set something off in their disturbed minds and have them graduate into full fledged psycho killers! And that day is less then a week away!Nowhere as gory as most slasher films released in the 1970's and 1980's "Bloody Birthday" is far more disturbing in that the killers in it Debbi Curtis & Steven are barley out of their diapers when they commit their horrific crimes! Some against their own family members! It's one of their classmates Timmy Russel,K.C Mantel, Joyce's kid brother who uncovers just what the three are up to. That's when they tricked Timmy into locking himself in a refrigerator at the local junk yard that almost ended up suffocating him.After murdering almost a half dozen people Timmy finally convinced Joyce that the three were up to no good when they turned their attention on her as well. To make thing even worse one of the little rascals the smirking and gun totting Curtis, who handles a Magnum revolver as skillfully as Dirty Harry, tricked her into thinking he poisoned the three's birthday cake that made Joyce look like a raving lunatic when he tried to stop everyone at the birthday party from eating it! ***SPOILERS*** With only Joyce and Timmy standing in their way in preventing them from wiping out the entire peaceful little town of Meadovale Calif. the three killers move in on them as they try to get help which is not to come with the phone wires in the house being cut by the trio! That has both Joyce and Timmy left on their own to fend for themselves against a ruthless and determined bunch of psychos who'll stop at nothing to keep the two from revealing the truth of what they did and are still planning to do!
