At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

OK, how on earth did this get made? I'll start off with the voices. It's got all new voices for the cast, including a new voice for Spud the Scarecrow. Instead of the crowing British accent that kids think funny, the new voice is like a surfer dude. Bob's voice is new too. There are new characters, including a twin brother who has very little to do with the plot. The plot revolves more around Elton John's character, John, who is the keyboard player for "Lenny and the Lasers" and who needs to write a song for the big Christmas special. There's a female mayor who seems to want nothing more than to sleep with Banger, the Roadie / Manager for the band.OK, so while the special has very little to do with Christmas (other than being set at Christmas time and Bob's job is to help set up the town tree and lights).Fast forwards to the end, the big Christmas Song. Guess what Elton John (who gets named Elton John in the show) chooses for his big Christmas number? If you guessed "Crocodile Rock", you win! Yes, that's the big Christmas special song, written with help by Rolie the Steam Roller. My 3 year old son watched this and kept asking why the voices were weird. I couldn't explain any of this mess of a show. Terrible from start to finish. Only worth watching to see how bad it is.

This is one 50-minute-story which is even better than the series. The longer running time gave the makers the opportunity to better work out the characters and develop a good plot. Details are worked out fine and it is presented in anamorphic widescreen (16:9) and Dolby Surround sound. It's really great. Can't wait for a full length release to be seen in cinemas.
