Sexylocher Masterful Movie
Skunkyrate Gripping story with well-crafted characters
Bluebell Alcock Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
Sammy-Jo Cervantes There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Tracy Winters Bo places an ad.Overseas is where the action is for Bo and her company of fellow bores when she travels the jet-stream to Spain with the intention of losing her virginity. Oh, the makings of a great script.... are not found here. Yes, Bo takes off her clothes, and yes, there are some 'sex scenes', so called. But this flick is small potatoes, albeit those small potatoes Golan and Globus thought it was "too sexy"... pffft. Their sex lives must really suck. One of four John Derek/Bo Derek limp-noodle collaborations. It's hard to say which one was the worst, but this one is in the top four.
Michael_Elliott Bolero (1984)1/2 (out of 4)After years of being stuck at a strict boarding school, virgin Lida (Bo Derek) breaks free and plans on meeting a shriek who will take her sexual gift. After that doesn't happen she heads off to Spain to try and bed a bullfighter. This notorious disaster is a complete mess of a movie that is so painful to watch that I'm sure many would be willing to jam knives into their eyes. The only reason no one would actually go this far is because of Derek and her beautiful, often naked body. There's no question she's a beautiful women and her husband, director John, loves showing her off. I've always been curious if he was just wanting to make money or if he had some sexual thing about seeing her with other men. The one thing this film has going for it is that a couple of the sex scenes are highly erotic. Outside of that the movie is pretty dreadful from start to finish. The 105-minute running time is very hard to sit through and there's no doubt that the fast-forward button was invented for movies like this. One of the biggest problems is that the film, much like the Derek's previous film TARZAN THE APE MAN, just keeps going and going and going without any real reason. I'm still not sure why on Earth either film had to run as long as they did and this one here is just one boring situation after another. We see Bo and her friend (Andrea Occhipinti) constantly talking about what they'd "like" to do yet we rarely see it. We have George Kennedy cashing a paycheck and looking incredibly lost as the chauffeur. The supporting cast also includes 15-year-old Olivia d'Abo playing a gypsy pretty well but I doubt many will be prepared for her full nude scenes where it's obviously here and no double being used. The biggest fault of this film is just how poorly made it is and the spotlight has to be shined on John Derek. He certainly had the money to create good movies but why he chose the scripts he did and why he decided to direct them is beyond me, there's no doubt that his wife was hot but sitting through the movies are a pretty rough job to matter how beautiful she is. How much pain one can put up with for the sake of beauty is certainly on full display here.
Jack_Rabbit_Slims91 OK, maybe it was bad... pretty bad. Some of this John/ Bo Derek collaboration is incredibly stupid, flawed and confusing, the editing is a little all over the place and inconsistent and Bo Derek simply cannot act. However, it isn't one of the worst movies in the world. Circa 1920s, A recent beautiful-mega rich school graduate, Lida "Mac" MacGillivery (Derek) and her irritating BFF Catalina (Ana Obregón) spontaneously decide to travel overseas to lose their virginities, Mac has her standards and wants it to be perfect and we follow their pathetic story of love, sex, friendship and frustration. I sat around watching the whole thing, it felt like 4 hours (only was 105mins), but I did watch the whole Derek project. Bo Derek is absolutely stunning, she is gorgeous and an absolute knockout in this film-- at her prime. Throughout this movie, viewers are treated to her getting nude every 15 minutes (flawless body) and getting screwed a by her Spanish man Angel (Andrea Occhipinti), we also get to watch Lida ride horses (once nude) and participate in bullfighting. The locations are impressive, the score fits, and the sex scenes are weird but erotic at the same time.Bo Derek has a love for animals, particularly horses, and purposely incorporated them into this film, her love for the creatures really show throughout which I appreciated. Now I'm looking for Ghosts Can't Do It, apparently an even worse film, last night went through the old video tapes at my local video store to no avail.
Bobbynyc One of the dullest things I have ever seen - it has haunted me for years. The story such as it is, has Bo looking for sexual ecstasy with she insists is spelled with an X - at the end of movie as she and the Bolero of the title are making whoopie - the room begins to fill up with steam - and then they are making love on a cloud, where behind them is (I am not making this up) a neon sign spelling out the word ecstasy flashing on and off. I remember thinking as the neon sign flashed "this is it, this is the stupidest thing I have ever seen." To this day none of the other horrible films I have seen have come up to that one transcendent moment of the uber dumb that was that scene.
