thomasjay-52277 A brilliant film this is. Crammed with a cast of recognisable faces all giving brilliant performances and a gripping story full of highs and lows 'Boyz n the Hood' is amazing quite frankly. Innovatively shot over the run time to give maximum emotional impact this film is spectacular whilst also providing a heartbreaking commentary in the state of America in the 90's (Which could still be relevant) and exploring complicated themes such as racial identity, self fulfilling prophecies and so on, I highly recommend you take the time to watch it
antoniocasaca123 Good movie, good casting. The first movie in which we see actors like Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr, Ice Cube, Angela Bassett and others in prominent roles. It's a film with some resemblance to Spike Lee's "do the right thing," made just 2 years earlier. This "boyz n the hood" does not reach the same level as Spike Lee's film, but it has many merits. Perhaps it could have been more "bold" on this issue of the problem of black neighborhoods in the United States.
westen1223 Short summary; Boyz N the Hood is an exceptional movie that is able to stick to its screenplay with legendary performances by various known actors and actresses and the depiction of African Americans during the early 1990's are absolutely realistic.Unlike most hood films, Boyz N the Hood accomplishes in delivering us messages that will assist numerous young potential individuals who will understand the devastating consequences of getting involved with gangs. Although there were barely any violence, the themes and the performances are what makes this film stand out to most 'violent hood' movies e.g. Menace II Society.
monstermayhem32 Even after more than 25 years since its raise, boys in the hood remains what I would call a cult classic. While the film does have its funny moments, but what's great about is how it deals what blacks had to go through in crime ridden Los Angeles and often trapped in the gang life because of limited opportunities and how the consequences of that life would result in jail, teen pregnancy, and death. The story deals with three friends, the, doughboy, and Ricky who try to navigate the struggles they go through on a daily basis while trying to avoid being trapped in the thug life.
