Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Well to begin with....Bulandi is not the best of T.Rama Rao,Anil Kapoor,Rekha or Raveena but it is not even a bad movie. The Box Office of Bulandi does not have any substantial figures yet it is a movie which can be viewed for it's storytelling, performances and old rural Indian customs, beliefs and traditions. The movie with the backdrop of a village takes you through the lives of the 'Thakur' family. The story is not very unique and looks like more of 1980's or early 1990's(you may even recall other village based stories of Bollywood like Viraasat...).But the storytelling is entertaining and doesn't slow down except a few places.Performance wise Anil Kapoor is as always convincing with a double role of Thakur and his younger brother.Rekha looks beautiful and as always shines with some good scenes like the one where she surprises Raveena by speaking English.Raveena looks beautiful and matures from a rude, arrogant girl to a dedicated wife.Supporting cast is fine with veterans like Aruna Irani and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. The comedy at some places stoops down too much while in some places even is hilarious. In the comedy segment better was expected from the script and with fabulous performers like Paresh Rawal and Late Sadashiv Amrapurkar it was achievable.Shakti Kapoor looks evil as a negative actor. And never to forget....Rajnikant in just a few scenes shows his Starpower!!!His style and larger than life screen presence is really fun to watch. The music is average and definitely a chart-buster was expected from Viju Shah.Yet 'Koi Hungama Ho Jaaye','Teri Meri Ik Jind' and 'Humne Tumko Chun Liya' rise above.Yes a couple of songs could have been edited in the second half. The glamorous avatar of Anil and Raveena in two songs don't leave you disappointed as we are used to it(especially urban audience). But the biggest drawback is the resemblance to old classics in the year 2000.By the new millennium arrived, people(especially metro city and larger urban centres)were rejecting old ideas and drama. The limited performance of 'Sooryavansham'(a rather good film) which released in 1999 is an example. So when the Multiplexes were about to arrive and old faces were going to take a backseat,Bulandi's timing went wrong. But that doesn't mean the film lacks everything. In today's 'Blind Multiplex Formula Era' Bulandi is still a reminder of those stories of Rural India which are completely neglected by the filmmakers who are only bothered about the 100crore club.(How many have dared in the last 15 years to make something like Swades(social) or Malaamaal Weekly(comedy)???) So to sum up-Bulandi if not Great is at least Good if you watch it 'Neutrally' without thinking about Box Office.

The film released at the start of 2000 alongwith MELA both disasters So sad to start a millennium with such nonsenseThe film seems to suit 70's but looks like an unintentional comedy for 2000Anywayz some classic gems from the film: Paresh Rawal I don't understand to laugh at his role or cry Reason: He goes searching his mother in the village worst part is when he realises a secret of Anil he keeps the secret in his stomach which becomes big and makes him look pregnant I remember in my childhood my teacher told me the same joke Urrf!!!! as a child i laughed at it that time but here? The whole film is a joke can't explain We have Anil in a dual role(One older and younger) and Rekha playing the older's wife and Raveena the youngers We also have reject Harish while Shakti playing the son of Aruna Irani who both fight on who has the worst wigDirection is outdated Music is badAnil tries hard looks too old in the younger role and too young in the older role yet good effort Rekha is adequate, Raveena too is okay Harish is bad Shakti Kapoor is terrible Aruna Irani is as usual Rajnikant is okay in a cameo

T. Rama Rao made some extremely beautiful films in the 1980s, but he seems to be a filmmaker who cannot mature with the changing times, styles and fashions. He's like stuck with the same old-fashioned film-making style.Actors are not bad, not good either. Anil Kapoor generally acts convincingly his two roles of a father and his son, but the flawed script often makes him look funny and pathetic. Rekha is good, but then - she's always good, and here she's nothing more than such. She makes the best of what she is given, but she always does that. In conclusion, nothing great at all. Raveena is OK, which means ordinary, not bad, not good, nothing. This film is melodramatic, occasionally stupid. Maybe it's a delayed film? Well, even then it still would be below standard. The script is terrible, the film is overdone, and the story goes nowhere. It feels like a film made in the early 1990s, but the script makes it look even older, the style is like from the 1950s.Don't recommend, unless you're a big fan one of the starring actors.

I watched this movie thinking it was an old one from 1994 but then was shocked to discover it released in 2000. Everything about this movies says early nineties, Anil Kapoor in a double role neither of which suit him one to old and one to young. Rekha looks great and still performs with vigour but she looked like she was competing with Raveena Tandon on screen. Raveena Tandon looked great also and being such a brilliant and professional actress she rose above Rekha's childishness and produced a good performances first spoilt brat and then pregnant wife. The movie overall was not good flop through and through 3 out of 10 the 3 for Raveena Tandon.
