Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Roman Sampson One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Blake Rivera If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
ersinkdotcom Just about everything in "Cherry Falls" is somehow clever and quick- witted. First of all, just take a minute to ponder the name of the town. The concept of a killer taking out virgins instead of disreputable teens is also something the movie has going for it. Another asset is a well thought out script by writer Ken Selden with a surprise reveal that hearkens back to the suspenseful who-dun-its like "Prom Night," "My Bloody Valentine," and even the later "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying "Cherry Falls" is perfect by any means. There are plenty of stale performances and overacting from a largely young cast. Honestly, that's my only complaint about the movie."Cherry Falls" is rated R for strong violence / gore, teen sexuality, language and some drug content. There's plenty of talk about sex, but no nudity. If you saw the movie when it premiered as the most expensive TV-movie on the USA Network, I'm sure most of the language and graphic violence was nowhere to be found. The version we get here is the home video cut, which features folks getting axed in the head and being impaled. Most of the killing is performed offscreen, however, in the fine fashion of "Psycho" and other early thrillers."Cherry Falls" is one of the more adept entries in the slasher genre. Much of this is owed to the combination of a sincere performance from Brittany Murphy, an ingenious turnabout in plot, and the familiar use of a surprise ending. It's an enjoyable addition to a horror fan's home entertainment collection.
Leofwine_draca CHERRY FALLS is one of the many knuckleheaded slasher films to come out in the wake of Wes Craven's SCREAM, and it's a particularly pitiful effort for the genre. All of the old, tired clichés are dragged out here and treated as if they're fresh and exciting, even if they go through the same old routines time and again. There are stalk 'n' slash sequences, scenes of the heroine fighting off a vicious attacker, and more of the brain-dead high school speak than you can shake a stick at. The one difference about this film is that the killer targets virgins rather than those who are sexually active; in films such as the Friday THE 13TH series, it's usually the lascivious ones who die first. However, this twist makes not a jot of difference to the film itself and indeed its done away with by the time the climax rolls. This film has one of those glossy looks that are manufactured to hide imperfections in the story. There is no real plot here, so to speak of, just one of those old 'past comes back to haunt' origins for the villain that used to be good in the likes of THE BURNING. The film's indebted to PSYCHO in a big way, but whereas Hitchcock's thriller was taut and superlative, this is just flat and lifeless. It feels like nothing more than a cast and crew going through the motions to pick up a pay cheque afterwards.Brittany Murphy used to be one of the most irritating actresses in Hollywood, although she seemed to have mellowed by the time I saw her in SIN CITY. I hoped her turn here would be like the one in the latter film, but no: it's like the one in DRIVE instead, all throaty vocals and high-pitched squealing. It's really bad. Other than the unremarkable teenage cast, the only familiar face is Michael Biehn playing the town sheriff. This is the kind of role that anybody could have filled and there's nothing of the humanity that Biehn brought to the likes of Reese in THE TERMINATOR and Hicks in ALIENS here. CHERRY FALLS is a film singularly devoid of motive, intent, terror and suspense; in short, it's pants.
iheartnormi This movie was very interesting. And though I am a sucker for Who dun-nit types of movies, this movie still kept me on edge. Starring the late great Brittany Murphy and Jason Mohr,it changed the whole idea of sex=death, that is seen in almost every slasher film. In fact the virgins are the ones being slashed off. This movie also has some funny parts ********SPOILER ALERT******* What I really loved about this movie is that everything ties up at the end Such when Brittany Murphy is chatting with her teacher (Jason Mohr) she claims she saw someone standing in the door. They race out to see who it is and they eventually land in the cafeteria and only the viewers of the movie see a boot with a weird logo like four little squares to make one square. Later in the movie she goes to her boyfriends house and she takes off his boots ( which are the exact same boots in the cafeteria). Which at the time gives viewers a chance to ponder whether her boyfriend is the killer. The killer we find out is the beloved teacher (Jason Mohr), who is the son of a student who was raped 27 years ago by a drunken incoherent boy who is now the father of Brittany Murphy's character. I know pretty heavy stuff. But after Brittany finds out about her father bad deeds she goes to Jason Mohr's home (how did she know where her teacher lived was that a normal thing)and she see him struggling trying to carry this big treasure chest type of thing and when he slides it down the stairs, which sort of scares Brittany Murphy, She asks what inside the box and he said "Your father, My Father" at the time we don't time we didn't get why he said that, but now that the movie is over I was able to realize how those things added up.I still have questions about this movie... 1. Did the boyfriend make it? we see him slashed through his shirt blood visible but he is able to crawl out to the balcony to see whats going on.2. They never really gave an explanation during th questioning by the FBI as to why they lied, I assume that it was to protect her father's image as well as the daughter.
chris dimarino Cherry Falls had all the makings of a "who done it" slasher, in line with the screams and i know what you did last summer molds. It however had a dull plot, which developed slowly and awkwardly and suffered from some awful production value and shot execution. The plot is simply the effort to unmask a murderer who is killing virgins. Aside from the fact that so much of the film is ludicrous, the way many of the "action" sequences were shot and edited was just atrocious. I would have given this movie some leniency if it was done by amateurs with amateur actors, but there are quite a few bigger names in it. The acting is moderate, but i doubt anyone could've saved this script.I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, unless you hate movies.
