Immigrants from around the world enter Los Angeles every day, with hopeful visions of a better life, but little notion of what that life may cost. Kidskycom It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Cody One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Jerrie It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
juneebuggy I ended up liking this more than I expected to. It sorta reminded me of "Traffic" with many separate stories and characters (revolving around immigration and the struggle to achieve legal status in L.A) that eventually all intersect. Some of the stories were more interesting than others but I would have to say Harrison Ford as the experienced Border Patrol agent, was my least favourite character from within a great cast. He is the ultimate "good guy" here but still just a grumpy old action hero (look at his face on the poster). All the stories were interesting though, the Mexican girls story was sad, Ray Liotta was uber sleazy and I always like Cliff Curtis. 09.13
duskovic I stumbled across this movie on TV, a few minutes after it started. After awhile I realized that the movie had been made by the people who made Crash, but I was wrong. It had the same kind of pattern and similar dramatics, etc., so I was surprised that whereas Crash was a hit with the critics, Crossing over was a flop. Who know why, probably something to do with packaging and selling. It was on again tonight and I had it on while doing housework. I still found the drama punchy, but the idea of people absolutely craving to be in the US a bit silly. What, do they wanna be mugged or go obese? But apparently, there are opportunities in the US; you can open a burger joint, a pizza place, a coffee shop, etc., that mostly fail (80% in the first year). And yes, as somebody commented, the idea of being deported to Australia (a better country than the US) is amusing, but the girl deportee wanted to become an actress in the US, where good films like this one fail but junk like Transformers hits the stars.
kenjha A motley group of immigrants tries to get green cards in Los Angeles. This variation on "Crash" is letdown by a melodramatic and contrived script, courtesy of director Kramer. It's meant to be poignant and dramatic in conveying the plight of the immigrant, but it amounts to little more than clichés. The characters are one-dimensional stereotypes: the defiant Muslim, the babe willing to sleep her way to a green card, the Korean kid tempted by gangs, the sleazy immigration official. None of the characters seeking legal status is portrayed as likable or sympathetic. Ford and Judd are unbelievably saintly as bleeding heart liberals. Despite all its shortcomings, however, the film does manage to be entertaining.
driverscience Wow, this really shows the worst of real-life situations and the total insanity that is the U.S. immigration system. It hit me at a core of my personal and religious beliefs that spoke loud and clear, that the whole idea of immigration and nationalism is insane. And I did study psychology and I mean insane, right up there with delusional schizophrenia.I see now, that nationalism is the worst sickness to ever be inflicted upon the planet. It is truly a mental illness by all definitions of the word. I would never support the INS. What a bunch of lost people, breaking all the higher laws of human rights and going against the will of God.This is pure pure pure insanity. When will people wake up? Loved the film, because it so clearly showed what a bunch of crazy insane people the human race is. Wake up! National sovereignty is insanity. Sovereignty should be only at the individual level, where it only logically deserves to be.
