Far from Perfect, Far from Terrible

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Reviews are being over critical. Was entertaining and a good laugh. Would have gotten better reviews if not a remake. I liked both but have to give the nod to the first one as the original.

So the script is not that original but this movie is worth watching just because of all the stars who are much bigger now than back then. Too bad the writing didn't deliver the quality that these actors deserved. Still the movie was very entertaining and warrants a second look.

The whole ridiculous premise of the film is based on people thinking they are taking Valium, and instead taking a strong hallucinogenic. They say the brand name of diazepam, Valium, at least 10 times during the film. How would viewers react if they said "pepsi" or "sony" ten times during a movie? Probably not too happy. In addition, any film that tries to normalize any benzodiazepine, a class of sedatives that Valium belongs to, is careless. These drugs are extremely dangerous, highly addictive and hell to get off of. People have killed themselves because of their effects, including Chris Cornel (recently) who was taking Ativan. There have been cases of people killing themselves during withdrawal because it is so hellish.Would it be OK to make a fun movie where the characters are blithely suggesting to one another to take heroin? How about saying, "My wife took heroin for 40 years without a problem"? Heroin withdrawal won't kill you but Valium withdrawal can.No one should be allowed to say that about Valium. In fact, there are virtually no people alive today who have taken any benzodiazepine for that amount of time without problems. This whole movie was obviously paid for by Roche.

The problem nowadays, is that no one can ever make a remake and have it criticized on its on merit...instead everyone just compares it to its' original and believes that you can't like both. As a person who never saw the original, I can say that this was a a good movie. The only reason why I gave it a 9 instead of a ten is because the very very beginning (maybe the first 15 minutes) sort of coddled us through the introductions, and I much prefer a movie/TV show to dive right into the plot. But other than that, the movie was hilarious all the way through...in fact it seemed to get funnier as the story progressed. By the end of it, I was dying with laughter. The acting was great, the ensemble cast had great chemistry and each character stood out int their own way so the character development was spot on. I think that people should give this movie a real shot and don't go into it comparing it to the original because no remake is going to be the same...every remake is going to have it's own twist and creativity that's going to cater to different people...so give this movie a shot! :)
