Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

A slow burner of an online world that encompasses everybody. A slow build delivers in spades as to the dangers and benefits of an online existence. The payoff of a convenient connective life but a disconnected family is amply displayed and multiple story threads come together for a strong crescendo. It is still relevant in 2017 that children's lives are being decimated by knuckle dragging antagonists supported by parents too ignorant, stupid or ill equipped to control their retarded offspring. It is poorly understood in today's society the pressures on our children in a 100% visible world where your every move is judged, the parents and older generations need to catch a wake up call and not expect their kids to 'get a grip'. It is the parents and grandparents that need to understand how life is so hard for kids today. As a 55 year old who works in IT and Cyber security I see far too much of the perils kids face that we never did.

Cindy (Paula Patton) and Derek Hull (Alexander Skarsgård) are struggling with the lost of their baby. Cindy gets help online while Derek is closed off. They get financially hacked with their identities stolen. They hire former cop Mike Dixon (Frank Grillo) to investigate and he zeroes in on Stephen Schumacher. Mike's son Jason and his friend Frye are pranksters. They start catfishing classmate Ben Boyd. Ben's parents Rich and Lydia (Jason Bateman, Hope Davis) are not connecting with him. Ambitious TV reporter Nina Dunham (Andrea Riseborough) starts chatting with online sex worker Kyle (Max Thieriot) and meets him to do a story. Kyle is part of a group of young and some underage people working online sex. When the FBI shows up, the media company calls up lawyer Rich Dixon. It's a little bit overdramatic at times. These are harrowing tales of lost privacy and disconnected internet connections. The reporter's story is possibly the weakest. The reporter is not that compelling. The catfishing is probably the most powerful. The movie can be overwrought. It goes for the worst case scenario and the audience can't be surprised by any of the turns. The interconnected nature keeps the story moving. The overall feel does leave a disturbed uncomfortable sense. There are some good actors here doing compelling work.

"Disconnect" is a techno-thriller directed by Henry Alex Rubin starring Jason Bateman, Alexander Skarsgård, Hope Davis, Paula Patton, Frank Grillo, Andrea Riseborough, Michael Nyqvist, Max Thieriot and Marc Jacobs (yes, Marc Jacobs as in the fashion designer). It's packed with a lot of drama, putting social media in the foreground and the problems that it can/has caused nowadays. The internet can connect - but sadly it can also disconnect, as we get to see in this drama. I'm not going to talk all professional with you, whoever you may be, because this film was just so powerful. I saw it maybe a month ago and I can't stop thinking about it. It makes me question everything I put on the internet, it makes me even a little paranoid when I look at my laptop (could someone be watching?), it makes me be more careful and I find myself looking at technology with a new distrust. It is thrilling, intense and so real. So, if you haven't already noticed I really like this film and i recommend it 100%. Jason Bateman's performance particularly stood out to me, as he captured the essence of this movie perfectly. He proved that he is on top of his game and I hope to see him pursue more dramatic roles in the future. The acting from the whole cast is great and the screenplay, lighting and filming only make it even more exciting. The story follows three separate groups of people, all of them having some kind of dilemma with social media. There is one Family, in particular a boy named Ben, a couple and a reporter trying to interview a video chat room stripper called Kyle. I'm not going to go into the story any further, it's better if you just jump right into the movie. All I'm going to say is that you should definitely watch this film. If you are thinking about it and wanted to read some reviews to be sure, what are you waiting for? Watch it! You won't be disappointed.
