So many of you need to learn two very important things about IMDb.1. How to rate a movie. Some of you gave this movie 1 star. Are you people stupid? Echelon Conspiracy isn't too bad. I agree the actors aren't the best you'll ever see. I agree the production and direction could have been a lot better and I also agree that it's not the most original storyline too.Listen people.....what the heck do you want from a low budget movie. I think this movie is solid enough DESPITE those things. When watching it, I didn't get bored and I saw it through to quite an unexpected and enjoyable ending. It has a cool far fetched plot, a car chase and a beautiful woman who lucky boy Shane gets to see naked! There are a few movies out there that deserve 1 or 2 stars but this isn't one of them. Just because you don't like a film very much, it doesn't give you the right to attempt to drastically lower it's rating. You need to be objective and give a realistic mark. I have a great example for you all.....The Shawshank Redemption. Load up this movies ratings please. It obviously has a high rating. Now click on view all reviews then select 'HATED IT'.Look how many people have given it 1 star. Ridiculous, isn't it? Let's make IMDb a better site by giving correct ratings. I and many others use this site to find good movies to watch on a regular basis.2. If you disagree with the above....DON'T USE IMDb!!!!!!

The producers and directors should have done their homework better, and started the movie with some famous quotes of computer people (and hackers) in the know, like Sun Microsystems' Bill Joy who wrote in the April 2000 issue of Wired magazine an article "Why the future doesn't need us" and claimed that computers will eventually become more intelligent than we are, leading to scenarios like a robot rebellion or .... echelon taking control ... This scenario is also covered inside "The Listening", but there humans still remain in final control. There's some pointers that "Echelon Conspiracy" is pretty close to reality. In Feb 2009 a new movie was announced in the Netherlands as 'Coming soon'. It's title : "The Gift". In July of the same year it was released on DVD only, in the Netherlands but with the title "Echelon Conspiracy", clearly a name change to steer the grand public away from this one. Considering that a lot of essential story telling is handled in a popcorn fashion, leading the remaining audience astray from the real issues, should trigger alarm bells with people who aught to know, like computer security experts, and people who do know, like computer hackers. Highly interesting is the part where anonymous people are sent into casinos to rip entire blackjack tables empty, leading to catastrophic national deficits, which was also MI6's major concern in the Bond movie Casino Royale of 2006, a year before the credit crunch ...

If you expect action, drama and intrigue, then you'd be better off watching Eastenders. Despite having a role call of A list actors (Jonathan Pryce, Martin Sheen, Edward Burns, Ving Rhames), the script is wooden with corresponding and unconvincing acting performances to match. The film is directed and produced as if no one ever really bought into the idea ... which itself could have been covered in a few seconds, and then we would have all had something better to do with our lives. Personally, this was a bad idea which should have never made it out of the coffee shop. If it had gone straight to DVD that would have given it too much respect. Also known as "The Gift". This is something I would not give anyway to a jumble sale.
