Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
atinder I have tired to watch this movie a few times, only well, i fell a sleep in the first 2 times, I did put a bit late, so i decided to give it another today, when day was light. Now that I have seen the whole movie, I don't think it was all that bad, there were some creepy moment in this movie that worked really. There were really cool bloody scenes that really liked in this all though I don't think It really fitted in this movie. There was really calm moment in this movie, which do feel little boring at times. The acting wasn't great in some part of the movie, I felt some of actor Could not be bother that near the end of the movie as the acting didn't look as lazy at the start. 5/10 But I not sure if, i Should see Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005) - I Heard it kinda of the same! (I Will give it watch maybe next week)
Maurice Boyd I wasn't really expecting that much, but this movie really surprised me. Going into it i was unsure if it was going to stack up to its earlier counterpart, but i was pleasantly surprised. The writer of this movie must have been seriously disturbed as a child. The script is fantastic and the movie all together is flawless(the cgi was a bit spotty, but was forgivable). The conflicts in the movie add even more suspense to this already suspenseful movie. Father Merine has lost his faith in God and anything supernatural and throughout the entire movie is looking for a logical answer for everything that is happening around him. This film also had one of the most disturbing scenes i have ever seen, with a young child being mauled by a pack of hyenas. It was brutal. But this movie is a great compliment to its cult classic sequel. A must see.
Asna Eram First of all I would like to say "SHUT UP" to all those people who are constantly saying that Exorcist: The Beginning was a bad movie, not scary, bad special effects and all that... Sorry for being rude but this movie is better than 1973's Exorcist and as well as better than Dominion. Well 1973 Exorcist is 13 years older than me and I respect it in the fact Exorcist's ending was a nice one according to that time. But as for now, I was totally laughing when the so called scare scenes were there in exorcist. But boy! Exorcist: The Beginning originated some pure chilling & scary moments like the ending scenes where Sarah was revealed to be possessed from demon. Her appearance was definitely scary. And the starting.. what a superb one.. (those who say its a cheap CGI effect.. come and generate some "realistic" effects.. then you criticize..), the asylum scene, Sarah's room.. there's a list.. Acting was a strong one in Exorcist: The Beginning.. Dominion.. the story is so lousy and boring that i lost my interest halfway through the film. Its fine that Exorcist: The Beginning has some factual errors and doesn't fits with the original's, Dominion is more factually correct; but everybody is not perfect. And according to me the CGI effects were quite OK.. that was not over used. Some user was complaining that this movie De-characterize Christianity, and some movies are made for entertainment basis. I would like to say that which movie is not made for entertainment? Directors make documentary for other reasons.. Harlin made a superb movie.. Thumb's up.
duke396 I watched this movie right after I saw "Dominion" (I realize this one was made first), and I must say I thought this was so much better. Don't get me wrong, "Dominion" was good, but "The Beginning" was so much more in-depth, answering some of my questions that lingered from the other. Among the notable differences that I appreciated seeing were Merrin digging up the empty graves of the natives, his flashbacks being segmented instead of just a "hey -- this happened" at the start of the movie, more of the characters dying for the sake of the ambiance (these aren't exactly supposed to be feel good movies are they?), and the woman being possessed instead of adding this random "Che Che" character (she was so much creepier!) This version had me staring at the screen with my jaw hanging open several times, which is a pretty difficult reaction to get out of me these days. After seeing this, I was even a little disappointed to watch the original Exorcist again. I recommend this to anyone who has a strong stomach (compared to the others in the series) and wants to see a good "scary" movie.
