While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

I'm a professional screenwriter and director, and I can tell you how monumentally difficult it is to get a first feature film off the ground and into production... let alone to make it any good. With Extracted, Nir Paniry has done an absolutely stellar job.He has managed to tell a big story that could easily have cost millions of dollars on a modest budget. There's great credit due to the script for that. The film itself is compelling, well cast and acted, emotionally involving and commercially appealing. This deserves a huge amount of credit to Paniry together with his cast, crew and producers. I hope they're as proud of this as I was impressed by it.To pick up on a minor flaw, I agree with a couple of other reviews that have pointed out that the plot comes a touch unstuck in the final denouement when all the details are revealed. But I'll more than forgive it this for its otherwise great strengths and commendable execution. If you haven't seen Extracted and you enjoy sci-fi, then you must give it your time.

I only watched this movie because of a pretty good score in Netflix. This is a very good movie, great idea and good acting. I have no idea why this movie was so poorly reviewed. The story is classy science fiction about a scientist stuck in his own mind reading experiment and desperately trying to find his way out. During a prototype demonstration to replay the murder of a young woman the scientist accidentally stayed in the mind of the accused person and his body fell into a coma. With the help of the guy he tries to find a way back. There a some nice plot twists and a satisfying end. I liked the movie very much and can only recommend it. Don't listen to the bad reviews and give it a try.

Simply put, this is a whip-smart science fiction movie that is all about the nature and reliability of memory, and how it interacts with personality.I initially thought that the 9 and 10 ratings in the reviews here were a little generous, but made sense when considering its budget and the notoriety of the actors and director. Then I watched it again four days later. It's a rare movie that not only stands up to that kind of scrutiny, but offers up overlooked details and becomes significantly more moving and emotional. This absolutely deserves a 9.2 without a handicap, and for some context, in my book District 9 is an 8.9, Attack the Block and The Skin I Live In get 8.7, and Limitless and Source Code get 8.5. All movies I loved, but none are exceptional in the way this is.It has a very effective thriller structure, but you have to pay attention and be on top of what's going on (virtually every external reviewer pretty obviously didn't; there's no way the second act is slow or repetitive if you're following the story). Like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, it spends almost no money at all on the tech. Ignore the lack of whiz-bang and attend to the ideas. What stuns me on the second viewing is the depth of the character story, and the quality of the performances from the mostly unknown cast. The visuals are stylish, and the editing and score are both very effective. This is absolutely a writer / director to watch, big-time.

A fascinating idea for a story.Thomas Jacobs is an inventor who creates a machine he hopes to help people with Trauma to overcome their past and move on, but others see potential to prove criminals guilt – Desperate for funding, Jacobs agrees to test the device and become trapped in the memories of an alleged killer.Technical issues aside, the film runs very smoothly and has a very interesting story – Yes, there are technical issues such as Jacobs being in a coma for four years as his mind is trapped elsewhere so by rights his body is not going to be in a good condition
But that's for serious nit pickers! It's a Sci-Fi Story after all
Travelling the memories of his host is quite fascinating
And worked really well, little touches such as pulling the leaves of a plant only for them to reappear still attached just reinforce that Jacobs is living in a memory – As much as he tries he can physically change nothing. For some people, the human element will not be to their liking – It's been a big complaint of many Sci-Fi Movies lately, Robocop (2014) being heavily hammered by the critics for this.Personally, I look at it another way
If it is done WELL – Then it is acceptable! And this film does it very well
It is a film that will make you think about many things by the end of it and even question some of your own memories.Effects wise – Honestly there are not too many but it does not need them – This is proper story telling at its best, and something Hollywood could learn from. While it will not be to everyone's taste, it's a great movie and well worth a watch
If there is a strong criticism it is that this is one of those films that you will watch and maybe won't watch again for some time
An engaging story – Even one full of action – Is what makes a good film
