It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

Sarah Jessica Parker could make this sort of film in her sleep, and it's a shame to see someone with natural comedic ability having to go through the motions in this weak romantic comedy from 2006.It's just not that funny really, which misses half of the objective. The concept is good in itself, but there are too many slow scenes, and the fact that the guy is such an unlikable character too doesn't help. It's surprising to see Matthew McConaughey pop up in such a bad film.

It has always been a mystery to me as to why Matthew McConaughey is such a big deal to a lot of people. He is not that good an actor and he is not really that physically attractive (I'm a woman). His performance and his looks are generally very average, and actually below average in this particular movie. One word: massively overrated. The movie itself is quite poor, too. Not funny in the least. And complete lack of chemistry between the 2 leading characters is very obvious. So this attempted "romantic comedy" fails on both fronts - it's not really romantic and not really a comedy.Sarah Jessica Parker is just playing Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw all along (the facial expressions, the gestures, the very character), as that seems to be the only character she is capable of portraying. In fact, it just felt like an impossibly long Sex and the City episode, not a stand-alone movie.Honestly, I don't think they could've found an actress that was LESS suitable for the role of Paula than SJP...Zooey Deschanel was kind of cute in this movie and, surprisingly enough, her performance was semi-tolerable (compared to the leads at least), although I usually consider her a horrible actress. The age gap between her and SJP was painfully obvious, and the fact that they had nothing in common and were forced to act as friends/roommates, made the movie all the more awkward to watch. It goes without saying that the plot is predictable to the point of nausea. Lazy writing, banal storyline, bad acting, boring characters, and general lack of realism and entertainment value make this movie almost impossible to sit through. Not one I would recommend to anyone...

The story dove head first into introducing the characters and getting the plot rolling which was the only good thing about the film since if it were any longer I would have given it a 1. Once the ball was rolling with it's a-list cast playing severely underdeveloped characters, the formula became too blatantly evident far too early even for a rom-com. The disturbingly futile attempts to add originality and humor came in the form of random animals inexplicably biting the protagonist at various points throughout the film and an equally irrelevant sub-plot of Zooey Deschanel's character (SJP's cliché quirky friend) and an annoying mockingbird. Nothing was genuinely funny despite performances by talented actors and the absurd arbitrary scenes slotted into an otherwise very formula- driven snooze of a film.

The reasonably humorous tale a player who refuses to grow up and move out of his parent's house actually makes a decent "date night" movie. The story follows the journey of Tripp (played by Matthew McConaughey), as he is duped by friends and family into finding love, and taking charge of his life. That journey has moments ranging from "laugh out loud" to "bring a tear to my eye" as we find out that Tripp has really been protecting himself and his feelings rather than simply being a cad. The cast mesh well together, and all gave sincere yet comedic performances. However I do feel that Sarah Jessica Parker should have been replaced with someone more age appropriate.
