Highly Overrated But Still Good

Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

For plot. For performances - John Hurt as the great example. For cultural references. And for the action scenes, like for delicate love story. All - pieces of a splendid work who propose one of the most seductive roles of Ron Pearlman.

Good movie. Perhaps a bit too long, I had the impression of watching a series, but good. It's not Guillermo del Toro that I'm used to, but it's certainly worth a look, especially who likes super(anti)hero movies.7/10

Fans of just about every comic book super-hero character dream of the day when their favorite makes it to the big screen. I read the Hellboy comics for a while and didn't think them anything special, and I was actually surprised that the character would get a movie treatment. Since it did, Ron Perlman seems the logical choice to portray the character, he has just the right size and look to translate Hellboy into an on screen action hero.I liked the idea of a Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, sounds sort of like The X-Files, doesn't it? The idea that Hitler survived World War II and lived till 1958 sounded interesting too, but once we learn that, nothing ever comes of it. In the end though, the story goes the route of all big super hero films with an all out assault of over the top, mind blowing action and indestructible monsters for the good guys to defeat. It's a pretty standard formula that's not interrupted here. The movie does pose one major question mark. It opens with a narration by one of the principal characters, Professor Broom (John Hurt). He adopts the infant demon Hellboy who comes through a time portal engineered by the Nazis, and brings FBI agent John Myers (Rupert Evans) aboard his team to battle present day forces of darkness. I always have to wonder how a story with a principal character that doubles as the narrator winds up being killed in the story.

This movie sounds stupid on the outside, but its actually pretty good. The reason i say this movie sounds stupid is because read the plot. The son of the devil is raised to fight dark and mythical monsters that are hell bent on taking over the world. First the pros. So the makeup and special effects they have on these characters are astounding. Hellboy's even looks cool. The plot is actually kinda simple, but its simple entertainment. Simple entertainment doesn't neccesairly make a good movie, but it makes a pretty entertaining one. By the way if you love action in movies, then you are gonna like this film because it is totally action packed. But now the cons. So some of the characters aren't really engaging. Some of the characters i didn't care for because they don't really have much to do. So overall i really enjoyed Hellboy. It was entertaining, eye popping, and action packed fun. In my opinion, i say it represents a good example of a summer blockbuster.
