Synopsis

There's a fine line between man and swine! Murderous legend or deadly truth? HogMaul has been a part of rural Abrams County lore for sixty years. The townspeople are divided on the tale of the homicidal, hammer-swinging and head-smashing pig man. Is it just a story told by parents to frighten the children, or is the legend of the killer cryptid true? Watch as Abrams residents, local law enforcement, and an obsessed Cryptozoologist find out what really dwells in the dark forest.

Fluentiama Perfect cast and a good story
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Myron Clemons A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
rcobb-2 This movie is a blatant rip-off of Porkchop, a 2010 indie horror film from director Eamon Hardiman. And I don't mean "rip off of the teens in the woods" concept, because that's been done a million times. I mean they stole everything about this movie directly from Porkchop, including t-shirt designs, posters and marketing materials, etc.If you like fun, low-budget indie horror, and ALSO like support original artists, I would advise you to skip HogMaul and watch Porkchop instead. Or you can support thieves and watch HogMaul - but every time you do a kitten dies.Stealing from other low-budget, out-of-pocket indie directors is disgusting and Nap Bishop should be ashamed of himself.
Tombie Stuller Words can't describe how proud I am of these fine people. It's timing is smooth and the characters are all well written and thought out precisely. With an out of pocket budget, Ill-Conceived achieved a movie that demands many views. That is, if you are a true indie horror fan. I find something new every time I watch this movie. Chock full of tongue-in-cheek movie references, HogMaul pays quite the homage to the running through the woods style of movie. It's blend of campy comedic timing and serious BAD stuff going on gives it a decent flow. In some ways it kind of reminds me of what Troma's idea was in their early days. There are some fine musical montages that help get the feel of the emotions these characters have to what is going on around them. All in all, a great job for the first one! Even though in some spots the wind isn't on their side, the folks at Ill-Conceived powered through and made a piece of art worthy of any indie fan's shelf.
tcoll32 Hogmaul is a comedy from the folks at Ill Conceived Pictures and was written and directed by Nap Bishop. Hogmaul is a half man half hog (hence the Hog in the name) who kills his (or her it's never explained what sex the creature is) victims with a huge sledge hammer a/k/a a maul (hence the Maul in the name). He (or she) went on a killing spree in the late 50's and then disappeared until now. The first thing you have to grasp is there is no attempt by the film makers to explain anything logically which lends to the comedy greatly. No attempt to explain where the creature was for 50 plus years, no explanation on why, with 2 year olds packing heat in this county, no one has shot it, or definitively seen it. It is eclectic group of characters with the "expert" looking for Hogmaul, the father looking for his missing kid, the group of potheads trying to score free weed, the obesely overweight farmer trying to scare everyone off his land, the sheriff who with his deputy hopes to hide in his favorite diner and hope all of this blows over, and the extremely odd girl who seems to worship Hogmaul or at the very least is in love with it. Now we have all seen this type of film before (both independent and Hollywood) but the difference is that this one is done for laughs and not straight. This deliberate attempt at comedy while following the same basic storyline the straight redneck monster films do makes it great parody of these types of films. Some of my favorite performances were Chrissy Delprete as Ingrid the Hogmaul expert who shows no emotion whatsoever even as folks are being slaughtered around her, also Cori Coulter as one of the potheads who is fine until she runs out of snacks, also worthy of mention is Aloysious Mack as JR from Latrobe who is a paying customer for one on Ingrid's Hogmaul hunts but didn't bother to read up on what they were doing or that he was going into the woods camping. Fun film and definitely worth a look-see if you are in the mood something light.
