Aedonerre I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Jeff2sayshi The 11th hour is a movie starring Kim Basinger as a female executive in a European shipping company. After a horrible miscarriage (her 8th in 10 years) which almost kills her, her doctor informs her she has to stop trying as it won't happen. That could be grounds for an interesting drama of what a woman in those situations deals with. However, this movie goes another route, as Basinger's Maria discovers through work a child prostitution ring in a town he company's shipping routes go through. She then decides the most logical thing to do is to try and buy a baby from the prostitutes. This movie is off the rails entirely. The acting works, but what they are given is complete drivel. There is no thought put into how she'll execute her plan, other than taking some money. There are also scenes where an unborn baby is talking to Maria. If this happened only after the miscarriage, it would make sense as Maria coming unhinged, however, it happens from the first scene of the move. The ending, however, is why I gave this one star. I was ready to give it 3 or 4, but the very end of the movie basically says it doesn't matter what happens to this woman, she got a baby and that makes everything ok. It's downright insulting.
somf That probably includes my review. It is so odd and different and though the basic story is quite easy to describe, the filmmaker's approach to the subject matter is so unique that I found it elevated what is admittedly a flawed film. Bassinger and Jordan Prentice both do an excellent job in their starring roles. I think the original title "I am here" fit the film much better than the title the 11th hour. I think the intent was to market it a little more as a suspense film, and it may be the reason for the lower rating. It is more an art house film that can be criticized by some as being a bit slow, but the director Anders Morganthaler really does some neat stuff with a continuing theme of Bassinger communicating with the soul of her daughter that she miscarries early in the film. That is why I liked the earlier title. I don't think I have given any true spoilers by discussing this issue. It is not a great film, but certainly worth watching if you are in the mood for something far from the norm.
lua077 The first time I saw Kim Basinger was 7 1/2 Weeks, and I loved it! She had these full lips and a sensual look, it wasn't even necessary to be too good of an actress. In the late decade I saw her again, sad, older, not really too demanding in her choices for roles in movies. However, seeing her at "I am Here", I think she took a great leap. I think she accepted her maturity, and this role was just right for her, and she gave herself 100%.The rest of the cast is there only to make her shine. The exception is Jordan Prentice who interacted with her performance in many ways. A woman in a desperate need to have a child in her life. She's successful, rich, married, but still empty. Slowly she becomes obsessed with this idea, after failing for ten years.I would classify this movie as a thriller/horror, rather than just a drama. She hears a voice and follows it. Is she going mad or her nature is really calling even that it's already too late? The movie is complex and not for everyone, but I really enjoyed the dark tone and a little dark humor towards the end. What's the price to make a dream come true?
Rampant Polanski This is one seriously messed up movie: If you like films like 'Repulsion', 'La Pianiste' or even 'Black Swan' (which I didn't think all that much of) or just beautiful unhinged women going further off the rails generally, I recommend you give it a look. It's a European production from Danish director Morgenthaler, and feels miles away from anything made by Hollywood, yet it stars the bewilderingly youthful-looking Kim Basinger, who here is a revelation at her very best, with flawless support from Jordan Prentice and the always reliable Peter Stormare.'I Am Here' is a dark, still, tense and creepy place to go, but I'm glad I did.
