This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

Ah Mother Russia why play on an even playing field when a warped one will do just fine? Not to turn a blind eye to the other countries of the world who dope their athletes but USSR, you gots caught! As we depart that juggernaut known as the Olympics (the Winter Olympics just wrapped in South Korea), now more than ever doping (& to an equal measure sexual harassment) is foremost in most people's minds but not really enough to cancel the spectacle. This incisive doc has an interesting thru line which is derailed when the jig's up so a lone scientist risks life, limb & career to voice the deception that has apparently been going on since the 60's. The truth of the matter is that people are more excited about the Olympics than actually doing something about it. I don't know which side will finally give...we'll see.

Absolutely mind blowing film. A documentary that shatters your sense of reality with nothing but the truth that strikes to the core.

Russia is a big topic in the news at the moment and as per usual their integrity is in question. If you ever had any doubt that the Russians haven't changed their attitude from the Cold War you only have to see Icarus to see that dishonesty and corruption is rife and it comes right from the top. This film starts of with amateur cyclist , Bryan Fogel Intending to prove that sports doping testing can be rigged. He contacts Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, the head of the anti-doping laboratory that tests Russian Olympians. As Fogel tries to beat the tests, he becomes closer with Rodchenkov and uncovers the biggest scandal in modern sports history, thereby exposing both of them to physical and legal danger. What struck me about this film is the scale of the doping that has been going on in Russia and for how long. There is no doubt now that it has been happening and that's because it had come the horses mouth - Rodchenkov.
You can't help but like the man despite his part in almost destroying Athletics and you do worry for his future.
As a piece of entertainment , Icarus is fascinating without particularly being gripping. It could do 20 minutes being trimmed off.
This film won best documentary at this years Oscars and while it doesn't feel like an award winner it certainly deserves a viewing just to see the pure front of the Russians.

Well this is two hours of my life I will not get back. Also, another 15 minutes I will not get back after writing this review to warn other unsuspecting docuphiles out there. This is a terrible, bumbling, mess of a documentary. Every Doc has a bias and some are better at hiding those biases than others. Icarus charges ahead, intelligence left behind in the dust. The film NEVER mounts an argument or even attempts to show the bigger picture. Russia is bad. The USA stops bad. End of Doc. The irony is completely lost on them just how many times U.S athletes have been found guilty of doping. Lance Armstrong is mentioned in passing, seriously. Watch another film an save your brain cells. DO NOT WATCH!
