At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

This documentary shows the extreme influence that newspapers had in shaping the United States of America. The Chandlers are a very interesting family who basically created the city of L.A. and through the L.A. times ran the city for a over 100 years. These kind of epic stories don't come along every day and this documentary is very educational in bringing the story of their family and paper to the public knowledge. This is also a very good film in that it helps me appreciate such classic films as Citizen Kane and All the President's Men and newer historical films such as Good Night, and Good Luck and Frost/Nixon. All of these films speak to the great influence of media (newspapers, TV, radio) on the public opinion in America and how the power of a few can effect the outlook of the masses.I highly recommend this film for anyone interested in History, the evolution of media, and the influence of powerful people on all aspects of life (politics, religion, society).
