Steineded How sad is this?
MusicChat It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
Edwin The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Tony Forget race, this is gender dominant, the ladies win hands down in this film. The men basically play slapstick sidekicks, the ladies get the best lines. Goldberg is just a sideshow, the other ladies have an excellent display of comic patterns, they're great interacting with each other.
krbuck1221 First let me say that I'm white and even though this movie has an all black cast, it isn't a "black movie". It's a movie about families and one I relate to very well because my family is as dysfunctional as the one portrayed here.I have seen this movie at least 4 times and I recommend it to anyone longing for a movie the family can watch together. It's extremely well cast with all the characters creating the empathy necessary to draw you in.Whoopi Goldberg is exceptional as the matriarch suffering the loss of her husband as well as the antics of her extended family. LL Cool J and Vivica Fox, as Ray Bud and Lucille, and Anthony Anderson as Junior, play there parts very well. Jada Pinkett Smith as Charisse, plays her character so well you want to choke her. I have to add one thing, Anthony Anderson is one of my favorites and I've liked him in almost everything I have seen him in. He plays both comedic and dramatic roles equally well. The funniest scenes in the movie are between Marguerite Slocum, played by Loretta Devine, and her "Demonseed" son Royce, played by Darius McCrary. He is best remembered as Eddie Winslow from the TV show 'Family Matters'.There are some curse words, (the 'D' word, the 'H' word and one use of the 'S' word) but they are in context to the particular scene in which they are used. The one suggestive scene involves Royce and Bernice Talbert and it's included to show the emptiness Royce's life.Would I recommend it? Absolutely! I don't remember hearing of this movie when it was released in 2001 but I predict it will continue to build a following and become a classic in the same way 'A Christmas Story' has, since its debut 25 years ago.
Hotlanta76 This movie was outstanding. It was very funny, and very similar to the play. It only added or changed dialog in a few places, and it was always an improvement over the (already amazing)play. The cast was one of the if not the best ever assembled for a movie. LL Cool J is an even better actor than Rapper and gives an AMAZING performance. Jada Pinkett Smith is very talented and funny. As is the (always) hilarious Anthony Anderson. I could go on and on but there is no need- this classic film speaks for itself and in my opinion is one of the greatest movies ever made. (top 20 easily) (yes of all time). If you have not seen this you MUST see it immediately!
compman86 The acting was mediocre, the plot was stupid, and the humor was distasteful. I can't remember laughing ONCE. It's basically a movie about low-lives scrambling around, threatening to kill each other and yell at each other. Most of the movie has nothing to do with the man who died, but rather with the dysfunctional lives of his family. I give this movie a D- and highly recommend to not come within 100 feet of this movie.
