Synopsis

A crime wave in Paris results in the hot-tempered Surete Commissioner becoming so stressed-out that he requires bed rest at home. Robert Reynolds This is an Inspector short from DePatie-Freleng. There will be spoilers ahead:Paris is suffering through a crime wave and the Commissioner has cracked under the strain. The Inspector is assigned to make sure he gets peace and quiet. Does that plot sound familiar? It should, because it's been used by quite a few people working for more than one animation studio. There's some novelty to the gags, but there's also a lot of familiar stuff here. Having the Commissioner needing peace and quiet on Bastille Day is an amusing touch, for example. But the obnoxious cat on the backyard fence is old hat. Elmer and Porky have been through that. The final gag is a lift from at least one Warner Brothers short.Still, this is a reasonably funny short even so. The Inspector is bested repeatedly, as usual. This short is available on one of two DVDs which contain all 34 of the Inspector shorts between them. The DVDs are well worth getting.
ccthemovieman-1 The Commissioner is home in bed, having cracked under the strain of his job, so the Inspector gets the assignment to guard him and make sure he's not disturbed.Of course, the well-meaning but dim-witted Inspector does just the opposite: in trying to keep noise down to a minimum in the area, he creates more. The story involves hammering, church bells and a stray cat. The latter, a "felonious feline," as the Inspector puts it, drives him crazy. Every time the cat makes further noise, the Inspector gets blamed so the former keeps trying different ways to get the cat. In one, he uses a product from the "Le Acme Toy Company," reminiscent of Wile E. Coyote of "Road Runner" cartoon fame. In fact, this animated version of Inspector Clouseau often reminds me of that character. In many of these cartoons, he employs a number of methods to get his assignments done and they all fail miserably, much like Wile trying to get his prey.
au_law2001 I got to admit, I really loved those Freleng cartoons, Pink Panther, The Ant and The Aardvark, Roland and Ratfink, Hoot Kloot, and The Inspector was no exception, it was one of those classics that still make you feel good, and very memorable. In this one, the commissioner needs sleep, but some cat keeps singing, and the inspector tries to shut it up, only failing and ends taking the blame for it! Especially it being a holiday, he still tries to make sure the commissioner gets the sleep and peace he deserves, but to no avail until he gets the cat, and things become quiet for now, or do they? How many live is it a cat has?(or at least that's what people believed those days). A must watch episode for those who like this series.
