Reptileenbu Did you people see the same film I saw?
Melanie Bouvet The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Quiet Muffin This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
alexcapogrosso They don't call this the dream cast for nothing. The story and score are so wonderfully produced here. Colm Wilkinson as Jean ValJean is legendary. Few can really come close to Wilkinson's portrayal of the lead role. He shows a wide array of emotion in all of his songs.Other cast members (in no specific order): Philip Quast as Javert is fantastic, he plays the role so convincingly, one of a few that I've seen do so. "Stars," "The Confrontation" and "Javert's Suicide" were flawless on his part. Jenny Galloway as Madame Thenardier is flawless, her singing, acting, and accent make the role special. In conclusion, Quast and Galloway were my favorite parts of the show. As Galloway's stage husband, Alun Armstrong brings a convincing menace to Thenardier during "Master of the House." Michael Ball and Judy Kuhn are the best ever as the lovers Marius and Cosette. "A Heart Full of Love" is song beautifully. Lea Salonga as Eponine is great, "On My Own" is spectacular. Ruthie Henshall as Fantine is heartbreaking, "I Dreamed a Dream" and "Fantine's Death" are perfect. Michael Maguire as Enjolras wasn't terrible, but seemed a little too demanding for a student at times.Other minor characters: Hannah Chick (Young Cosette) and Adam Searles (Gavroche) did good. So did the ABC Friends. Great job overall!
Parker Lewis When I'm on the treadmill I always listen to the rousing finale to this...you have Jean Valjeans from 17 countries performing "Do you hear the people sing..." and "One day more" and in their own language. Inspirational and moving.Unfortunately they were missing the Greek, Spanish and Italian Jean Valjeans. How could they miss them? They would have added a continental flavor to the performance. But thankfully they had the Japanese Jean Valjean. The singer later on went to host Top Chef, the original one. It was touching to see Rob Guest as the Australian Jean Valjean. Sadly he died a few years ago.
Marx_Bros_Fan86 While I would love to see the Les Mis musical adapted to the big screen, I doubt they would assemble a top notch cast like the Tenth Anniversary Concert. Sadly Hollywood would most likely sacrifice singing talent for good looks. Many of the cast members were originals in their respective productions. Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, and Alun Armstrong were cast in the Original London Production. Philip Quast was the original Javert in Sydney, Australia, while Michael Maguire and Judy Khun were in the Original Broadway Cast. Lea Salonga of Miss Saigon fame, Ruthie Henshall, and Jenny Galloway make up the rest of the main characters. This is my favorite Les Mis recording because the cast is so even in quality. The other three recordings have some superb performances, but there are a few people who stick out as inferior to the rest. The best performance in the concert is Quast, and of the four recordings in English, this is the best Javert performance you can buy. Quast also recorded the Complete Symphonic album, but his rendition of "Stars" is a tad bit better here.It is unfortunate they had to abridge some songs and remove a few others, but the Tenth Anniversary Concert is still longer than the Broadway and London albums. I just wish they had kept Javert's Intervention. Unlike most concerts, the actors sing in costume and in character the whole time. They are backed by a full orchestra and a chorus of former Les Mis cast members. I haven't bought the DVD but if you're going to buy one Les Mis album, get this one.
woodenshoesrule If you love Les Mis then you'll love this DVD as well. It really captures the whole atmosphere of the show and includes all great songs of the musical. It's also a story that will still be valid hundreds of years from now! Just a few things that makes this DVD not a 10 out of 10. First of all: this is a concert (so it's different then seeing the real thing on stage) and that not all the lyrics were included which is too bad! Also you might not totally agree that this is "the Dream Cast"..I don't think it is, although it comes pretty close! I think Michael Ball and Philip Quast are WONDERFUL as Marius and Javert! And well...they are all wonderful. Their voices amaze me and so does the music and do the songs, so just enjoy the beautiful music...do you hear the people sing?
