Version: Grimm Up North festival screeningActors: 7/10Plot/script: 7/10Photography/visual style: 7/10Music/score: 7/10Overall: 7/10It's astonishing how broad the range can be even within a sub-genre of films. Life After Beth is best described as a 'horror comedy', and yet it is completely different to other horror comedies I saw on the very same day.The comedy comes from the situation, not the characters, who are played pretty straight. Beth (Aubrey Plaza) comes back from the dead, forcing her boyfriend Zach (Dane DeHaan) and parents (John C Reilly and Molly Shannon) to confront their grief and the conflicted feelings they have about her and their lives with her. Over the film, her behaviour becomes more abnormal, and other undead appear, causing increasing chaos. The pacing and balance of the film are remarkably well managed. Plaza does a great job with her performance, slowly showing increasing signs of deterioration from ordinary teenage girl to mindless zombie, and each other character's reaction to the bizarre situation is shown to be ridiculous at one point or another. I note that director Jeff Baena's main other contribution to film is co-writing the script for David O. Russell's surreal comedy 'I Heart Huckabees', and I think he should really be seen as a writer who has taken up directing.Lots of ideas are explored through Life After Beth, such as grief and the way our memories change as time passes. There is a little bit of action and tension, but mainly this is a melancholic, thoughtful piece which brings humour out of the behaviour of normal people in an abnormal situation. It's a writer's film, and an actor's film, and I found it rather touching as well as entertaining.

I had heard nothing good about this horror comedy, but it was short and starred Aubrey Plaza, an actress whom I dearly love from the television show Parks & Recreation, so I gave it a go. What do you know, it was a pleasant surprise. There's not much new you can do with zombies, and I can't say this is super original (My Boyfriend's Back comes to mind in particular), but it has a couple of really fun aspects. The zombies in this film are not the brainless, Romero ones, but can talk like normal people. At first, they seem completely normal, but as time passes they start to get more and more aggressive. Plaza is really funny, particularly when she starts getting mean and violent. My favorite thing about the film was the reactions of her parents (John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon), who want nothing more than to keep their daughter's resurrection as quiet as possible and get life back to as normal as they can get it. Her moody boyfriend (Dane DeHaan) wants to tell her the truth, though. I also really liked DeHaan's parents (Paul Reiser and Cheryl Hines). Anna Kendrick also appears as DeHaan's new love interest. Really, they could have cast anyone in that role, so I have to wonder why they spent the money on a named actress.

Life After Beth is a Comedy/ Drama/Horror film about Zach Orfman ( Dane Dehaan) who just lost his girlfriend Beth (Aubrey Plaza) . He spends a lot of time at Beth's parent and finds it difficult to accept that Beth isn't alive anymore. But when all of a sudden the parents don't answer the phone anymore and don't let Zach in anymore he is starting get frustrated. He keeps coming and suddenly sees Beth walking in the house. That leaves Zach with a lot of questions and Beth's father is letting him now ad tries to explain. Beth has been resurrected but she can't know, Zach must find a way to deal with this. And tries to solve the problem. While this film is mainly meant as a Comedy there are also so much emotional scenes included. The scenes between Dane Dehaan and Aubrey Plaza are amazing. They deliver an fantastic job and give a great performance which helps the audience help to understand their characters. The scenes between them are very funny and they bring that over fantastic. Further casting deliver an acceptable job doing their role but Dane Dehaan and Aubrey Plaza deliver definitely the best performance.I think this script has been written really great. There are some romantically moment, some Dramatic moments for the main character, but also there are lots of Comedy moments. The story has been written beautifully and the characters are developed on screen really great. The thing about the film which I disliked was when more Zombies came you really didn't see them doing anything particular. There were no moments of action scenes, you didn't see them attack. And it took really long before they suddenly knew how to kill them. You, also, never saw them find out how to kill a Zombie, they just suddenly knew. While there was a moment in the film were Zach had to visit someone finding out what happened. But he never heard how to kill them, they never explained how to kill it- they just suddenly knew. Also I wasn't happy with the ending because Zach should never be able to love someone so soon already. Because he still loved Beth so much.Rating this film was quite difficult but I think give the rating : 6/10. Dane dehaan and Aubrey Plaza's performance helped to make this film great to watch. The comedy moments were also really funny but there were a few things which I disliked about the film. And that was all the reason for this rating.

What's with all the negative comments? It's not suppose to be 'Gone with the Wind'. It is an actually funny movie takeoff on the zombi genre. I predict it will be a cult film of late teen- early twentys low-wage workers on a Friday or Saturday night movie. I really liked it. The combination of John O'Reily and Aubrey Plaza is perfect (as well as all the cast.) Well, as I have to add more lines to fill the required 10 lines, a couple of my favourite films are 'Criminal' staring John O'Reily and 'Safety Not Guaranteed' staring Aubrey Plaza. OK . . . . 'getting high with Doug'? starring Aubrey Plaza and Doug. Oh, Paul Riser, now I remember where I've seen his acting before! Aliens.' How about other film recommendation? The Hedgehog- A french film. Well, thats ten lines! Life after Beth is an enjoyable flick
