Reviews

Maidexpl Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
Grimossfer Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to members of the 1%
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
thesar-2 While interesting and actually frightening at times, this experiment felt more like an Alien film (preferably Alien3 and Aliens mixed) with a slasher holdover in the late 90s. Hard to watch the way I did - only copy online I could find was some VHS upload into YouTube - not a good combo. But, it was doable. Recommended by the podcast Shockwaves as a lost and understated 90s horror flick. Honestly, it could've remained lost and it would be no big, well, you know.
patrick-green There was a movie. With a lighthouse. A serial killer is loose and the audience is agonising, and not because the film is terrifying. The film is terrifyingly bad with awful characters, awful acting and an awful end. The serial killer was the ugliest bastard I'd ever seen, and he does not utter a word throughout the movie!!!!The whole film has a strange surrealistic atmosphere, as if the actors had been teleported into a parallel bad movie dimension. The "traumatic scenes" of the movie were more like comedy than anything else, like some awesomely bad joke told by my sister. By watching this movie I experienced no feeling of being entertained at all, it is definitely good for the trashcan.
dbdumonteil ...this "lighthouse" gathers snatches of "the defiant ones" (the chain),of "Vertigo" (the stairs ) ,of Christie's "ten little Indians" (well-known tale of a group on an isolated island where a killer is doing away with them one by one ) and many a Jason-type film. You can guess who will die and who'll survive as soon as the characters appear on the screen. The music is bombastic and instead of enhancing the "highlights" makes them more ponderous and stodgier. One can save,at a pinch ,the sequence where one of the poor lads in in the toilets and tries not to be noticed by the criminal who's walking around . Otherwise, worthless.
Backlash007 ~Spoiler~The slasher film is alive and well...and living in England. Weird, I know. I really enjoyed this late entry into the slasher sub-genre. Dead of Night follows a prison ship transporting notorious serial killer, Leo Rook, which never arrives at its destination. It sinks and the survivors are forced to swim to an "abandoned" lighthouse while Rook is somewhere on the island. Dead of Night is a low-budget flick with quite a few surprises. The main surprise is the bathroom scene. One of our cannon fodder characters is hiding inside a bathroom stall while the killer is also in the room. He knocks a can of air freshener over and it slowly falls to the ground only to land on a towel. It's as tense as anything I've seen; A real sweating bullets moment. It reminds me quite a bit of the heart attack-inducing game Clock Tower. Equally edgy is a scene involving another character hiding in a dingy and one in which the heroine is literally hanging by her hair. Ouch. James Purefoy (Resident Evil) is good in the lead and Christopher Adamson is very sinister as the baddie. Watch out for the sequel, Dead of Night II: Rook Takes Queen. Or maybe not. Either way, Dead of Night is a gory bit of fun.
