Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

Maid in Manhattan (2002): Dir: Wayne Wang / Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Stanley Tucci, Bob Hoskins: Unbearable mess told totally through its trailer. The big challenge is whether Ralph Fiennes and Jennifer Lopez end up together, and whether the audiences gives a rat's ass. The most creative aspect to this otherwise boring screenplay is its title. Lopez plays a maid in a hotel in Manhattan. Her ex-husband makes false promises about attending their son's school speech. She encounters a kindly man who is running for Senator. She is unable to admit to being a maid and not a rich hotel guest. Director Wayne Wang previously made Anywhere but Here but here he doesn't do an inspiring job. Lopez and Fiennes are going by the motions here. Why she cannot admit to him about who she is becomes a useless plot problem, and Fiennes basically sleepwalks through this until the truth of her identity emerges. Can anyone guess how this will end? Does anyone care? Natasha Richardson as a hotel guest who overacts horribly. Stanley Tucci plays Fiennes's adviser but perhaps he should have advised him to seek better material to apply his talent to. Bob Hoskins also makes a wasted appearance, and reminds viewers that we still love him in the far more entertaining Who Framed Roger Rabbit? The result is painfully pointless drivel made for the trash bin. Score: 2 / 10

This is a John Hughes' misstep. Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a hotel maid. She tries on a guest's clothes, and just that moment she's interrupted by Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes). He's from a political dynasty running for office and he mistakes her for a guest. What comes after is a class identity switch. The whole concept just seems dated. Did John Hughes copy it from a 50's movie? The first problem I had was why Jennifer Lopez wouldn't try to better herself? At first I thought it was something interesting like trouble with the INS. But no it's mommy issues. The problem is that Lopez is completely miscast. No one would believe that she would be so meek. Her persona doesn't fit at all.I am willing to buy into the fairy tale being pushed here. I am even willing to buy that she couldn't tell him the truth. She's a maid after all. They're untouchables..... Duh!!! But if Ralph Fiennes plays the Prince Charming, he's got to be much more heroic. He needs to go in there like 'An Officer and A Gentleman'. He can't be dragged there by a little kid. Where's the chivalry? When it was revealed, he starts berating her about lying. There are so many things that are off in this movie.

A pseudo-Latino-Cinderella story. It is shocking that Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes were paired for this romantic comedy, because, really, they don't have any chemistry on camera. Fiennes is a good actor so one wonders why he accepted such a stupid role in a movie that doesn't require of his acting but just of his posing. Lopez keeps trying the same role over and over, nor giving a chance to movies or genres that would suit her better. The problem with any failed Cinderella story is that, the story being well known and part of our cultural baggage, needs of reinvention and talent to pass the test. That's why Maid in Manhattan is a failure , as there nothing new or original, just a different setting. The acting is dreadful, the movie is not funny or entertaining, actually it takes itself too seriously, and it is not engaging at all.It sounds shocking, but this is a Wayne Wang's movie! A waste of money. No talent wasted whatsoever, though! :D

So it's Cinderella. It's hard to imagine why that would bother anyone who'd seen the trailer, by the time you sit down to watch the movie you know the plot.I may be the last person on earth to see Jennifer Lopez outside the checkout line. She's not bad looking but didn't impress me all that greatly as an actress, but she did tell the story. This may be a light- weight role for Fiennes (duh!) but I thought he carried it off well. The kid (Ty) was great, and Bob Hoskins was wonderful.I think Pygmalian (Pretty Woman) is a better story, and Julia Roberts is obviously head and shoulders above Jennifer Lopez, but I certainly don't regret adding it to my Netflix queue!Van
