Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

A mere collection of topics about Paris in the present and past times. Mediocre performance of the main character , ..maybe I always imagine Woody Allen who has a better role acting as himself. In this film Allen directs the same way he plays jazz: As an amateur. But in jazz at least he is recognized as such. A film one forgets as soon as it finishes.

I LOVE this movie! I went to Paris as a preteen and unfortunately was too young and immature to really appreciate it. This movie makes me fall in love with Paris and eager to visit again. It's also a great film about artistry of all kinds and will make any aspiring writer/painter/filmmaker/etc want to crack out their precious baby project and put their all into it! I would recommend this movie to anyone that is a thinking type, artist, or simply a Francophile. Beautiful shots of Paris, wonderful performances of the "modern day" actors who portray the character in ways that seem like real people you would meet in Real life, and great representation from the "1920's" actors who do a great job at bringing the greatest minds of that era to life. I urge anyone to watch this! It's a great film and an inspiring story that makes anyone eager to create!

Gil, an engaged successful screenplay writer of Hollywood but struggling as a novelist, spends time in his beloved country Paris with his fiancé, Inez and her parents. Walking around at midnight by himself, he is seduced by some passengers of an old car to ride. Surprisingly, he slips back in time to the golden age of 1920'. Then Paris draws him ardently more and more
My first impression on this film is what a beautiful streetscape Paris is. The sound and the scenery match perfectly and never fail to fascinate us even though the first a couple of minutes show us just the view of Paris. No wonder why Gil is obsessed with Paris and so am I about to be. What I literally interested in is that so many famous artists and writers in 20' such as Picasso, Dali, Hemingway and Fitzgerald show up on a sudden. The relationship between them is depicted in a comical way. At first, it seems that it is just the time slip film, but it is more valuable to watch it. After watching this, you must be overwhelmed by the Paris scenery and must hold a feeling that you want to fly to Paris!

Midnight in Paris was an enjoyable film to watch, stories about time travel and great historical figures is always a treat to watch. The protagonist (Owen Wilson) perfectly fits into this story as a writer who fancies the past and the city of Paris. Woody Allen has shown his great talent through his direction, symbolism and letting the audience experience Paris in different times. It was fun ride to watch Gil (Wilson) travel back in time to the 1920s in Paris and Midnight and interact with some of history's memorable and significant figures. As the film progresses you see Gil's life and time become happier and more exciting but at the same time his life in the present is in decline. The first half of the film was magical and a joy to watch. The only criticism I have is the part where Marion Cotillard's character also has the opportunity to travel to an even earlier time in Paris in the same manner as Gil by accepting a ride at midnight. This somewhat made the film confusing and harder to buy into. How many people can slip back into time besides Gil so easily? While the past was celebrated well in the film the ease with which people could go back and possibly even change past events underscores its importance and significance it has played. I feel they could have omitted that element and it should have only been Gil's ability and journey. He could have still reached his epiphany that people in the present always look to the past and nostalgia is a feeling that each generation will continue to have. Overall still an enjoyable and creative film. 7.5/10
