Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

If you are looking for a "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" sequel, this isn't it. It is a totally different premise. Even though it's not fair to compare it to "MBFGW" because it is so different, I actually like this movie more. Love the humor of this movie. I have watched it several times for "girls night". The romance storyline is sweet and the Greek history aspect is educational in a fun way. Also a good choice if you like to travel. I've never been a huge fan of Richard Dreyfuss, until this movie. He's sweet and lovable in such a way that now I enjoy him more in other movies too. I also enjoy all the sub characters a lot. The stereotypes of the various countries are amusing. Watching everyone develop and change adds to the overall tone of the movie. A little predictable, but still enjoyable. A group of mismatched folks from around the world coming together and becoming friends and pulling together never gets old, in my book.

You know, "My Life In Ruins" already shows it is bad from the first twenty minutes, in which the main actress is fooled and ignored all the time. I actually felt very sorry for the way writers made the character-- a complete formulaic loser. American movies still insist in showing "loser" people and the winners, as if people weren't both loser and winner, depending on the aspect. Other than that, the movie is pretty cheesy and clichéd; you know, some old people trying to be cool and a weird guy who is surely getting along with the beautiful girl in the end. Poupi and Nico are some of the most annoying characters I've ever seen in movies. Also, it's full of scenes totally implausible, not to mention the completely fake visual of the "beach"-- made in computer, of course. At least, it is not unnecessarily overlong and you have (a few) laughs throughout the trip. A bad movie, in resume.

Nia Vardalos is Georgia, an American come back to Greece to be a tour guide. However, she gets the loud obnoxious tourists, and she really has no personality to interact with them.Richard Dreyfuss is a widower who laughs on the outside, but is hurting badly inside. He tries to breath some life into Georgia.Greek actor Alexis Georgoulis provides the love interest. It has it's moments. With a group as diverse as hers, it provides a lot of laughs. It's not a great movie, but it is entertaining.Boy, Vardalos has some great teeth. She shows them constantly. However, the Spanish divorcées looking for action, show more interesting assets.

One of the problems about having a successful first film, is that people have high expectations of your next one. Such is the case with Nia Vardolos. even though it has been many years since i've seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding, to this day, I still make a Windex joke whenever I can. My Life in Ruins has a long way to go, but in fairness, Vardolos did not script this one. She definitely should have. Overall, the movie is satisfied with being simply cute. It doesn't really bother to push the envelope and go for frisky or funny, which would have been nice. Georgia is fed up with her job as a tour guide on a bus trip across mainland Greece. The tourists are never interested in her or the ancient ruins they visit (which she finds fascinating). On this latest tour. (which she plans to make her last) One of the people on board is a charming fellow American, a crone, who teaches her how to be a better guide, and a more fun person. As she gets better and better at her job with each stop, she learns more about the folks on board, including the strong-silent type driver, who to her surprise has long been in love with her.The first problem with My Life in Ruins is obvious, it takes too long to get going. The first act in dedicated entirely to showing us how miserable Georgia is. After about fifteen minutes, we start to get the message. Vardolos, on another matter, is not even half as much fun as she was in Big Fat Greek Wedding. Even when she takes her clothes off in act three, her performance is quite stiff. Part of the problem, also has to do with a lack of character, another problem which may have been fixed if the script was hers.My Life in Ruins, is certainly not in Ruins, but it doesn't go any further than being cute.
