Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
manuel-bodlos Spoiler Warningin the beginning of the movie, "My Sassy Girl" appears to be your basic independent romantic comedy (which is usually told from the male perspective rather than the mainstream faire told from the female perspective). It never saw a huge theatrical release (if any), and it's getting dropped onto the DVD market with little fanfare. The film follows the weird relationship between the straight-laced Charlie Bellow (Jesse Bradford) and the free-spirited Jordan Roark (Elisha Cuthbert). They meet on the subway while Jordan is drunk, and Jesse brings her home to keep her safe. This starts them on the most bizarre courtship imaginable. Jesse wants a normal relationship, but Jordan would rather do things unconventional.
Betty B Movies, like theatre, have two major categories, comedy and drama but sometimes, like this movie, they are beautifully intertwined. This movie is one of those movies. For the first hour of the movie, I find myself laughing at all the right places, the ones where they wanted me to laugh and where you want to laugh. I enjoy getting to know them and watch their relationship develop. The whole time you know something's off, but you still love watching them together. Then the tears come. The backstory is finally told and you finally understand everything so far. It's beautiful and it's heartbreaking. And I cry. The ending is just wonderful. So appropriate to the movie. The movie feels like real life in all the right ways. Life is not just comedy and it's not just drama. Life is a beautiful mix of the two. There's no telling when the funny parts will be or the serious parts, you just know they come. For me, this make the movie even better. Do you have to suspend disbelief for this movie? A bit. Most guys probably just wouldn't have the patience for a girl like Jordan, and most girls probably wouldn't react and act like Jordan in a similar situation. But that's OK for me. I watch a movie to experience something other than real life. I live a life, sometimes I want a silly girl, the guy that puts up with her, and the love story that they live. This movie is real enough to suspend disbelief where necessary. And it's worth it to allow that to happen. This story is beautiful and worth a watch. My final recommendation for this movie, the point to really take home. I saw this movie on DVD in 2008 or 2009. And, because of series of events, didn't see it again until 2014. This is one of those rare movies that I couldn't forget. It didn't get mixed up with something else. It's unique, and one of my favorite movies. I have seen more movies than I can fathom, some of them I can't remember what they were about (i.e.: The Big Wedding...can't remember it for ANYTHING) this movie, followed me until I finally bought it so I can watch it anytime. I think that's the biggest recommendation I can make for it!Also, this movie has a real independent film feel. When you watch it, you know it's not a mainstream movie, but it offers something that most independent films don't, a happy ending, and I love that about this film. Seriously, just buy it and watch it. It's worth it.Finally, and please understand this, I haven't seen, nor do I intend to see the original Korean version. I'm just not interested. So, I can't compare the two. Matter of fact, I didn't know that it was a remake until long after I saw it. I enjoyed this movie tremendously for it was. I didn't compare it, I just enjoyed it. Maybe it's crap compared to the original, I don't know, i can't say, but this version is wonderful.
santasvelnyte I saw this film a while ago now, but I didn't forget it. It simply is one of those films that not a lot of people know, not a lot of people like, but I am one of those people. It just has something magical inside. I will confess that I've never seen the Korean version, but I do like this one very much. The cast was brilliant, the story, the film itself was so artsy, if that's the right word. Just beautiful. Now, I will not go into the details, because I may not remember everything clearly, but I do remember the end and as we all know, the endings are the best part and this film had a brilliant one. http://citizen-cinephile.blogspot.co.uk/
scottshak_111 My Sassy girl turned out to be an 'okay' movie although I expected more from it. The way the story went had me rooted but eventually it failed to keep me occupied as there was a lack of emotions and the apparent emotional touch that should be normally present in any romantic movie, was missing. The separation between the two protagonists should have been a little more touching which as a matter of fact didn't happen because of the lame performance from both of them i.e. Elisha Cuthbert as well as Jesse Bradford ( No offense .... but I still think it could have been much better ). I have been told that the actual Korean movie from where this flick was taken was far better than this one as it possessed a lot of emotions plus a great performance by the actors. You would enjoy the movie half way through albeit eventually you would realize that wasn't a damn good reason buddy ! Plus I hate to mention it but the old man spoils the fun in the last moments wherein he deliberately mentions that the letter would bring her down in tears which suggested it to be a pretty good god damn letter, which it wasn't. So that was a party pooper which fell on real hard spoiling the fun altogether. Well although Elisha Cuthbert happens to be one of my favourites (I can't rate her movies just because of that eh !) I would give it a 5 on 10.
