Synopsis

Originally a collection of clips from the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, Death was created as a precursor to the re-worked ending of the series. Rebirth was intended as that re-worked ending, but after production overruns Rebirth became only the first half of the first part of The End of Evangelion, with some minor differences.

Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Bea Swanson This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
maxyg18 After the mass disappointment by a lot of the fans because of the last two episodes of the TV series NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, the creators decided to make an alternate ending known as NEON GENESIS EVANGELION: THE END OF EVANGELION, but before that, they made this film, which is only the build up to it. Split into two segments: the first segment is DEATH, which is just the whole TV series in a very condensed form, which only shows you all the events that have happened up until Shinji kills the final Angel. Then comes the REBIRTH segment, which is just the first 30-minutes of THE END OF EVANGELION.This movie is only worth watching if you've only seen the TV series with the last two episodes, since the intention of this movie is to make you forget about those two episodes and get you prepared for THE END OF EVANGELION. Other than that reason, it's not worth it.
alias-zero2097 We watch Neon Genesis for all this time and we get 2 discs. The first disc contains clips from old episodes (woo clip-show in movie form!).The second disc contains a highly confusing piece of art that makes you say "WTF" on more than one occasion. One such occasion Shinji is floating through space then all of a sudden he is having sexual intercourse with Eve the creator of the universe (What?!)I believe that the second disc also contains clip-shows but I didn't bother to find out as I turned it off in disgust before it was through.
TSQuint37 The Neon Genesis Evangelion series is one of my favorite animes. One only has to look at my End of Evangelion review to see the degree to which I hold the series. However, Death and Rebirth should come with a disclaimer. There are some who would forgo watching the series and instead watch this and the End of Evangelion. I would strongly recommend against watching this film until after you have seen the full tv series. Death and Rebirth suffers from having to stuff a great deal of story (26 episodes X 22 mins = 9.5 hours) into only two hours. It achieves this by cutting out alot and changing the order of the remaining story. Die hard fans of the series will get it, but I doubt a newcomer would. In all honesty, the new scenes are short, few, and far between. To sum up, watch this after watching the full series and the End of Evangelion. It will be most enjoyed by die hard fans wishing to complete the Evangelion experience.
Flying_Arsedoctor 10/10 for the fact that most of the material was taken from an excellent TV series and a good film.2/10 for the lack of new material and rather uninspired way in which 24 episodes were summarised, meaning that this isn't really a film as much as an overview.Leaving me with 6/10. Couldn't be fairer than that.
