Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
elizalded Twirls, Leaps, and Tap Dancing Boys? Such a miraculous sight can be watched in the movie Newsies (directed by Kenny Ortega) released by Disney in 1992. The movie centers in 1899 New York, when kids (the Newsies) would sell newspapers to make a living. The story follows Jack Kelly (Christian Bale), and his closest comrade, David Jacobs (David Moscow), who lead the Newsies in a strike against Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall) who had raised the cost of newspapers. Throughout the movie, scenes filled with amazing choreography and catchy songs get stuck in you head all day. Although this musical has been entertaining, it also contains some historical accuracy. In the movie, Jack Kelly plays the leader of the Newsies. In reality, the leader of the Newsies was named Kid Blink because the boy would wear an eye-patch. This character is seen sporadically thought the movie, maintaining the real life person of Kid Blink involved in the strike. Theatre is always looking for drama to add, and displaying Pulitzer as the "mean, selfish and prideful" man conveyed the audience to be interested in the overall plot of Newsies. In real life, Pulitzer started off as this character, but later sided with unions during many strikes, and compromised with the Newsies. Overall, this movie was highly entertaining and hilarious to watch. The actors with all the dancing and singing gave us the intricate show of the Newsies.
cooka-64791 Newsies: Full of Enthusiasm and Energy! Full of enthusiasm and energy, Newsies, did not disappoint. Produced by Walt Disney and directed by Kenny Ortega, the lively film is based on real life events that brought attention to the immoral ethics regarding child labor in the 1890's. This film was spectacular in capturing the essence of the time period. Watching Newsies transported you to what New York City was like at that time. Released in 1992, the film brought character and youthful passion to the big screens while also capturing the historical aspects that are important to understand. These aspects would include the living conditions that the "newsies", the paper boys, experienced and the era where child labor was prominent. Starring a misfit gang of teenage boys, the leaders of the group, Jack Kelly (Christian Bale) and David Jacobs (David Moscow), project the confidence needed to spur the newsies into action for their fight against Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall). As the main villain, Pulitzer showcased the time in America's history where the media and press tended to be emerged in Yellow Journalism, which many times helped the boys sell the newspapers due to the radical headlines. Although not all of the plot was historically accurate, one can understand the gist of what the movie was based on. I enjoyed the film tremendously because all of the actors were lively and had distinct personalities that contributed to the humor and realism in each plot. If you're looking for a feel-good movie to watch, Newsies is the perfect candidate. This film is engaging and fun for all ages with timeless songs and unique choreography that will make you want to get up and sing along!
moreyk-07910 Newsies Continues to Inspire, EntertainInspiring, compelling, and entertaining are words I would use to describe the Newsies, a Disney movie released in 1992. This movie was directed by Kenny Ortega, who also directed Hocus Pocus, High School Musical, and Descendants. This film features the actors Christian Bale and David Moscow, two very important people displayed in the movie. The dancing and choreography performed by all of the boys was exciting and energetic! The dancing and singing value will make you want to jump out of your seat and dance along! The plot of this movie focuses on the 1899 child labor strike when children from all over came together in order to make an impactful change. In the movie, the boys were angered at the fact that the prices for newspapers went up because of Pulitzer and other bosses, however, historically the prices were also raised because of the Spanish American War. Also in the movie, the child leading everyone was a boy named Jack Kelly, however historically the boy that led one of the greatest child labor strikes was named Kid Blink. The dancing and singing really contributed to this movie because it kept you connected to the movie, and kept you entertained from the opening scene, never leaving you with boredom. The actors also contributed to and impacted the film because of their spontaneous personalities. Christian Bale and David Moscow provided laughter and excitement throughout the whole film. These two actors, as well as many other actors in the Newsies, won many awards for the film. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is "From now on, we trust no one but the Newsies", said by the character David Jacobs. This is one of my favorite quotes because the boys work hard for what they believe in while having fun along the way. I would recommend this movie to everyone, and would also recommend it to anyone who loves a good sing-along film!
heimm-22960 "Newsies", a Disney musical, is an empowering story about young boys standing up against child labor. In New York City 1899, Newsies filled the streets buying and selling newspapers for a "penny a pape." When the price of the paper was raised, the newsies were outraged. Jack Kelly, played by Christian Bale, organized a newsboys' strike which then grew and involved all victims of child labor. Although all parts of this 1992 Disney movie were not historically correct, the story line was a feel good, marvelous production. Kenny Ortega, known for his work in "Dirty Dancing" and "High School Musical", not only directed the movie, but was also the man behind the upbeat choreography. The music and dancing performed by these young boys made the film exciting to watch and the acting was top notch. Although this Ortega film originally received many negative reviews and was pulled from numerous theaters, this movie is definitely worth the watch. "Newsies" can be purchased on iTunes and is also available at movie stores.
