Good concept, poorly executed.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Released in 1982, "Night Shift" stars Henry Winkler as a morgue attendant newly assigned to the graveyard shift in the Big Apple where he meets an energetic but dubious new employee (Michael Keaton) who talks him into running a prostitution ring at the morgue. Shelley Long plays one of the ladies of the night while Gina Hecht appears as the fiancé of Winkler's character. Although director Ron Howard had previously directed 1977's low budget "Grand Theft Auto" and a few TV movies, "Night Shift" was his big theatrical break. It was also Keaton's film debut after spending 6 years on TV. Speaking of whom, Keaton's character comes off seriously annoying, but he slows down after a bit and you get used to him. Winkler was at the height of his popularity after six years on Happy Days with a few more to go, but he could never equal his television success in cinema (I've only seen him in three movies, this, 1977's "Heroes" and 1996' "Scream"). In any case, both work as quality protagonists who happen to be polar opposites. Long co-starred in this movie right before she shot to television success with Cheers for the next five years (when she chose to leave the show). Shelley never did much for me, although she's certainly likable, but WATCH OUT for her mind-blowing kitchen scene where she's just stunning. The movie's not great but it's consistently amusing with 2-3 laugh-out-loud sequences. The topic of prostitution is disturbing, even gross; it's hard to fathom how a woman could fall into such a horrible pit, but the movie stresses the humanity of the prostitutes and possible redemption rooted in love. And love conquers all. The film runs 106 minutes and was shot in Manhattan & Queens, New York City. WRITERS: Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel. GRADE: Borderline B/B- (6.5/10)

Continuing my plan to watch every Kevin Costner movie in order, I come to Night Shift.Plot In A Paragraph: Chuck (Henry Winkler) is a morgue attendant, who with the help of his new assistant (Michael Keaton) inadvertently becomes a pimp or as they call it "Love Brokers."I think this is a really enjoyable movie, Henry Winkler is fine and Shelly Long is OK, basically she is just her Cheers character, who is now a hooker, but Michael Keaton (In one of his first movie roles) is simply off the wall crazy. It's hard not to have a good time when he is on the screen. KC pops up during a party at the morgue. An early Ron Howard directorial effort, I enjoy this. 7/10

This film is about a man who works night shifts in the city morgue. He has an annoying new colleague, and soon they forge a new way to create sparkle in their lives."Night Shift" is set in a morgue and has lots of prostitutes, but the film is not as gruesome as it appears. "Night Shift" is light, fun and uplifting. Chuck is a likable character, while his fiancée is so neurotic that makes people laugh. Chuck breaks out of the mold by introducing drastic changes to his life. He helps prostitutes to make more money than they earn, fighting exploitation from pimps. It is funny to watch on screen, but it also reminds people that prostitutes are constantly being exploited and are subjected to much violence. The romance between Chuck and Belinda is well developed, and has much chemistry which makes "Night Shift" a satisfying to watch. It may even qualify as a romantic comedy!

beautiful but comics. It is useless, here you have paraocchi and unilateral ways of thinking. Some films from comics are rewarded while others are attacked, this film is like any other. this kind of movie derived from comic books do not convince many people. to me like, after all most recent film hollwood are based on comic books to produce them means that enjoy. Bel film cmq. Voting 5.7 indicates that on this site of horror films are seen evil. I ask minds indipenenti not to build the judgments of others and to reward and films but without being too strict. I would try to make a judgement more univoo since this site were underestimated masterpieces by Di caprio Titanic and Charlton Heston.
