Excellent but underrated film

Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Rexanne
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

Oh boy, Punisher Warzone is a movie that I enjoy but have some major problems with. One thing that this movie got right was casting Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle/The Punisher, who did a tremendous job and was perfect for this role, even looking like The Punisher. Colin Salmon was also good as an FBI agent that was at odds with Frank Castle, Julie Benz looks great and performed well and I really liked Wayne Knight's portrayal of the Micro character. All of the scenes with Ray Stevenson are really intense and the film is packed with extreme, over the top gory violence and brutal action. However, the film is too much in a comic book style and much of this stuff is too silly to supplement the dark and gritty subject matter/source material. A lot of the dialouge is just flat out dumb and the villains of this film are super lame and cartoonish. Both of the actors that play Jigsaw and "Loony Bin Jim" stink it up big time. They are even worst than John Travolta in the Thomas Jane Punisher film and to say that speaks volumes on the level of terrible they are in this movie. Besides the occasional levity from the Micro character, I don't see much humor belonging in this film and there are too many goofy moments that don't serve the story and are not funny. Frank Castle/The Punisher is a tragic, damaged and dark figure and Ray Stevenson portrayed him perfectly. For some, this will play as great campy entertainment. Speaking for myself, this movie had a lot of potential for greatness if this was taken more seriously. Even so, Ray Stevenson's performance alone is worth the price of admission and has a lot of good action.

This film is terrible, but hilarious. The villains are so over the top that they make the movie, and the first action scene is so stupid that it's funny

I really enjoyed The Punisher (2004) though I don't think Thomas Jane made a good Punisher he is a competent enough actor to have pulled it off. When I heard about this one 4yrs later I had no interest, I was frustrated that it had essentially been rebooted and that Jane was no longer playing Frank Castle. Here we are 9yrs later I've finally given it a chance and I'm saddened I didn't earlier. Punisher: War Zone is not the brainless action flick cash grab that I expected, in fact it rivals the 2004 version. For a start Ray Stevenson is perfectly cast as The Punisher, he looks perfect and blows Jane & even Lungren out of the water. He thoroughly takes the role and makes it his amidst a host of great actors and characters.Extremely violent and quite loyal to the original material this is something I could have gotten behind if it had become a franchise.I'm not an action junkie, in fact I'd say it is by far one of my least favourite genres but when its done right like it is here it makes for some great entertainment.Ignore the critics and put the 2004 version aside for a moment, War Zone is a damn decent film. The Good: Remarkably violent (As it should be) Awesome soundtrack Very competent cast Ray Stevenson makes a great Punisher The Bad: Accents are hit and miss Recasting/Reebooting so soon after the last movie was a stupid move Hero is a Christian, villain is an atheist. Overwhelming irony Jigsaw monologue scene was dumb Things I Learnt From This Movie:I would love to see this Punisher added to the Marvel Universe R-Rated superhero movies were a thing before Deadpool Julie Benz is ageless

The Punisher: War Zone (2008): Dir: Lexi Alexander / Cast: Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Julie Benz, Doug Hutchison, Wayne Knight: Every bit as stupid as the 2004 version only this time Ray Stevenson plays Frank Castle who dishes out justice upon those whom get away. When he accidentally kills an undercover FBI agent he is overcome with guilt. Directed by Lexi Alexander with a screenplay that is constant bang, boom, pow, ka-boom! It was either an easy shoot for Alexander or too many lazy days bored on set hoping the the next project wasn't this bad. Either way this is absolute junk at its most depraved. Stevenson as Castle basically beats the tar out of people or blows their faces off with guns. This is not a hero to be applauded. Others who were talked into this mess are Dominic West, Julie Benz and Doug Hutchison. They have all done better work in better films but this is certainly one of their lowest points. Why this film was made is not known. The other film was hardly a box office success so it is hardly likely that another film was in high demand. In fact, there is no demand for this piece of crap period. The production values are mediocre at best. I've seen commercials selling action figures that had more suspense presented than what is in this pointless sh*t. Poorly made farce that should be placed alongside the other version for target practice. Score: 1 / 10
