SmugKitZine Tied for the best movie I have ever seen
SpecialsTarget Disturbing yet enthralling
Peereddi I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
jacklmauro I stumbled onto this movie last night and - strange to relate! - I didn't do my usual surfing afterward. No, this is not a brilliant film. Yes, there are scenes where you really don't quite know what's going on, given the range of psychic abilities in play and their ways of shifting/warping reality. Yet there's more here than the standard bad guy vs. good guys mutant fest. The direction pretty much keeps you going, just as the performances are neatly restrained. Maybe one day Evans will get a meaty, upscale dramatic role. I hope so. Meanwhile, he's honest and authentic as Nick. As for Dakota Fanning - hot damn. This is 2009 but the young lady clearly has gained from her child star days, and she moves through her scenes with wonderful assurance. It's actually difficult to not focus on her. OK, the ending sort of indicates a sequel (and the final scene reminded me a bit of Amy Irving in 'The Fury'), but it still ties up enough plot lines to be satisfactory. All in all, a distinctly watchable thriller.
Edwin The movie itself is very well made and interesting, there are people with different abilities, and you notice the writers really planned these abilities well, I haven't seen anything like this in other movies. They left the story unfinished and expected to make enough money to make a sequel, which they didn't.It would've been a lot better if they made the movie longer but added a conclusion to the main story. I do recommend you watch this movie if you like Sci-Fi/Action movies, it's definitely worth it. But it'll make you really want a sequel.I'd just like to add that Dakota Fanning's acting is extremely good in this movie.
bobbo204 I rented this movie a week ago and was pleasantly surprised to find it was very entertaining. There's a few issues here and there but all the actors did a great job, the action scenes were well done, the psychic abilities were interesting (loved the Asian dude who screams, his face was hilarious!), and the Hong Kong local lent a nice feel to the movie. It was easy to follow and kept my attention the whole time. Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans really did a good job. I thought the director also had some nice shots in there and the special effects, while low budget, were decently done. All in all I'd highly recommend if you're a sci-fi fan. It's too bad the release didn't do too well because I would have loved to see a sequel.
dennis-harz I watched this movie without knowing anything about it but that it would contain some sort of superhuman powers and therefore expected it to be of the typical flat, boring kind (see Jumper). But I was in for a surprise. What fascinated me about this film is that the director makes his characters use their special powers in ways I haven't seen in a movie before and that are interesting and fresh takes on "standard" powers. I had many a discussion after a night out at the movies where me and my friends discussed along the line of "why didn't he just do this and that - i mean, seriously this guy could teleport (see Jumper again)!" - In PUSH I had quite a few moments where I thought "Yes! That's what I always meant!" The visuals where absolutely to my liking, too. The whole movie has a very exotic touch due to the setting in Hong Kong and the very colourful and slightly over-saturated scenery. From a graphic designer's point of view the movie contains some very beautifully arranged and composed shots.Personally I found that the development of the characters was more than expected and I found myself really caring pretty early into the movie. There is the occasional scene with a B-movie feel to it, but the overall performance is very satisfying. The one possible downfall that has also been pointed out in other reviews is the density of relevant story elements crammed into the beginning of the movie. I missed a few clues during my first watch of this movie (yes, I am a repeating offender) and was left confused later on. The second time I watched the movie the missing parts all came together though. It is all there, but easy to miss if not prepared.I wanted to be a 'Mover' for weeks after watching this movie, so take this as a sign how it entertained me :)
