Ratter aims to be a chilling moral story about technology and cameras in our lives. All the shots are from web cams, cell phones or video game systems (though like all movies of this kind, the idea of somebody being on a computer for some of the shots strains credibility). This set up can work sometimes, if the tension is constantly building. Unfortunately, with Ratter, there is no tension building. Emma moves to NYC, severing all ties with people other than her family. She meets a boy there, and makes friends with a couple people. Suddenly some weird stuff starts happening with her phone and computer. We suspect hacking, but don't really know. The movie goes on like this for the first 70 of its 80 minutes. Good movies in this genre start slow and build and build and build. Ratter stays flat the whole way through. The last 10 minutes ratchets it up to 10, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the movie. That is also ignoring how non-sensical the ending is. There's no explanation given, it's just kind of an ending that means nothing.Avoid.

Alright, I believe most of you are being overly harsh on this one. Admittedly, this film is not something extraordinary, in terms of originality or directing. The same motif has been displayed in other movies as well, in a much better way; in Creep for example. On the other hand, I do not agree that the movie is boring or not worth watching. The randomness of the threat and the lack of motive in violence is an interesting element and, in my view, always disturbing to watch. I think this is what the film wants to underline, that is why you don't get to have an "ending". The fact that you see Emma being involved in very common, everyday things you can relate with, makes you put the nature of the particular threat in a very familiar perspective.Once again, this is a classic concept and it has been portrayed many times in the past in other and obviously better films.

I'm a horror addict, any horror, including dumb bad horrors, I love (e.g bloody Mary). But I have a huge love for hand held movies, they make you feel involved, see the film through the actors/actresses eyes. This film, was one of the worst things I have seen. First of all though, I like the idea about RATS, major hackers. But when her phone was ALWAYS hanging out of her handbag, and perfectly aimed at her constantly, the fact she NEVER shuts her laptop down and that it's always in a place to get the full room, the perfect handling so we can see her perfectly, dancing drunk at a nightclub (which we have all done once, and it is blurry lights and shaking like you have parkonsons), it was way to far fetched.Yes, he hacks ALL her devices, but the fact every single device is always perfectly directed at her her is silly. The fact we never see who this hacker is, ever, leaves a bad empty ending which no conclusion, no hints, NOTHING about who he is, why he is doing it (yes some hackers hack stuff to stalk) but this man was an actual psychopath, to the point of killing her cat, who was he?Why was he doing it? was she his first? did he kill her? was he caught? Who the f*** knows, all we know is some dude hacked a woman, kidnapped her, end.The acting wasn't bad though, they really did their parts wonderfully, it was really believable, and it made you feel how scared she was for her life and how paranoid she was about everyone around her. I think the story of the ex BF Alex, was incredibly pointless, we didn't get much but it was a break up, and he an aggressive man, I think, considering he wasn't bad the second time on the phone, but the first he was using the F word like someone drop kicked his mother. Overall, the film COULD of been good, had they done the hacking footage much better, and not far fetched, and if there was any point to what had happened, and even an ending to explain it, we only get that he is nuts and wasn't afraid to show his face (whoever the f* he was) at the end to her mother, how the cops didn't show up in time neither for him to lift her, the dead cat, etc, but considering his face was in the mirror and on the laptop, i can only ASSUME he was caught, probably, who cares, the film was pure and utter s***e Don't watch it, even when it is within your Netflix.
