Kattiera Nana I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Micransix Crappy film
Helllins It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
Phillida Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Paul Magne Haakonsen "Revelation" did have potential, I will say that much. But it ultimately failed to be captivating nor particularly interesting. Perhaps it was the direction of Stuart Urban or the almost two hours of prolonged suffering, or maybe even both.Parts of the story were alright, but at almost two hours then there were just too much filling in blank time with pointless footage that slowed the movie down more than it promoted it. But overall it was just not worth the effort.I picked up this movie because Udo Kier was in it, but this wasn't his best movie, not by a long shot. But he did add that usual villainous element to the movie, as he usually does. Terrence Stamp did a good job, although his role was relatively small. It was also a treat to see Liam Cunningham in the movie. The blurred and distorted shadowy flashes in the movie didn't add an element of the supernatural. No, they just made the movie laughable and ridiculous. If you enjoy thrillers then I wouldn't suggest that you spend almost two hours on "Revelation". It simply just isn't worth the effort.
ozthegreatat42330 O.K. I will agree that it is not a great film, but I was taken with the tribute to the esoteric theories of history. Not completely an original story but still interesting. Imagine that you had Christ's DNA to be able to clone him after two thousand years. Now what happens when it falls into the hands of the wrong person. There is still an out when underneath all of the fancy finagling there is a simpler route to the rebirth of the savior. Flavor it with the underplayed performance of James D'Arcy, supported by a cast including Terrance Stamp, the always satanic Udo Keir and Sir Derrick Jacobi. The photography is spectacular, and the haunting music of the film adds to the pleasure I got from it. Of course there are numerous scenes that are ultra violent and one sexual scene that leads to the "R" rating, but this is not a family film, and was never intended to be. Somewhat of a poor man's "Da Vinci Code," it still brings the love of ancient conspiracies out for those who enjoy such things. If this is not your cup of tea, fine. But don't trash it for the rest of us.
tmjm This is a must for all film students. A comprehensive guide to bad writing, bad acting, bad directing, bad producing.Watch and weep. Please tell me the tax payer didn't invest in this.Perhaps better editing could have converted it into a comedy a la Benny Hill or Monty Python. Then again maybe not, there is nothing funny about Wightman - doubtless is a passable clothes horse but who's idea was it that she 'act'?Special effects are good though but are wasted here when they would have been prize-winners in a pop video. Pity that. And you are just going to love the wigs - if you waste money renting it that is.
LaFeeChartreuse Having thoroughly enjoyed this film, I was astonished to see the many negative reviews and overall low rating it got here, though I did note that opinion was mixed.I do think you probably have to have an interest in the subject matter - alchemy, occult orders, mediaeval magic, etc. - to get much out of it. The fact that those topics do interest me was a big part of the film's appeal, but even apart from that I thought it was well done. Perhaps not enough so to grab the attention of the casual viewer who doesn't know alchemy from Alka-Seltzer, but enough not to disappoint anyone with a serious interest. The film is an absorbing, challenging thriller, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, and some beautiful visuals. The acting is mixed - some characters were very convincing, others less so. The special features on the DVD added a lot to it - it was interesting finding out just how much of the background of the story was based on history, even though the main body of the plot itself was completely fictional. Overall I'd call it a film best viewed by a limited audience. If you don't have an active interest in the subject matter and are just looking for entertainment, you probably won't get much out of it. But if you do, it's well worth checking out.
