Leofwine_draca RISING UNDEAD is another indie zombie movie made without any originality or interesting intent. In was made in 2005 so in terms of technical qualities it looks much more dated than the modern indies they're making today. The story involves a bunch of characters hiding out in a warehouse during the zombie apocalypse. As tensions rise inside, a horde of zombies try to get in from the outside. Unfortunately, this is a film marred by horrid acting, a rubbish storyline with barely any action, and some truly awful computer graphics and sound effects seemingly added in "because they can".

torslander2001 A friend of mine lent me this film recently from his considerable collection of horror/zombie films. He assured me it was far worse than anything my former classmates at university had made during their media production degree course, ten years ago, using MiniDV camcorders and a flaky Apple editing program. He told me it was the worst film in history. Rubbish, I argued. Have you seen "Plan 9 From Outer Space"? Or "Shrunken Heads"? No, he said, but watch it. Honestly. It'll change your life.So I did. And do you know what? Rise of the Undead really is the worst film I've ever seen in 32 years of academic studies, preview screenings, website reviews and DVD collecting. This film is an abomination - the unflushable log laid by independent film-makers in the U-bend of horror movies. It's hard to really pinpoint why to anyone who hasn't seen it, because every single component is truly rotten (sorry). The script resembles the anodyne ramblings of a D&D-obsessed teenager, the dialogue is hackneyed third-rate waffling, the director clearly thought non-linear scene editing and randomly coloured lens filters would engender a macabre ambiance rather than simply nausea, the supposed plot twist at 55 minutes will have you clutching your head in despair at the hour you've just wasted, and the acting...oh dear God, the acting. Never has the end of the world been greeted with such apparent indifference. Apart from the girl who screams a lot - so much so, at one point she actually emits two screams simultaneously.Indeed, probably the most appalling element of this film is the sound production, with entire chunks of dialogue rendered (mercifully) inaudible. I'd guess the person "in charge" of the sound used a unidirectional mic instead of an omnidirectional one, because voices range from muffled to bellicose depending on how far they are from the camera. The occasional plink-plonk of sub-"Clockwork Orange" synth music does precisely nothing for the atmosphere, and despite being a huge fan of heavy metal, the closing credits music annoyed me so much I had to mute it. Think "Funny Games", only more incongruous.I would recommend this film to two groups of people: (a) Film and media students, so they can avoid some of the most glaring errors in their own work, and (b) People who like to get bladdered on a Friday night and laugh their arses off at a bad film with their friends. The rest of you? Avoid like the plague. No pun intended.

bnsmith89 With the Terrible acting, the awful dialog, the multitude of bad humor, the crappy plot and over terrible film. This has to be the worst film i have ever viewed in my life, and i'm the king of finding bad movies. For the effects, they just threw fake blood on people and things, didn't spend the time to create wounds and make special effects worth anything. Most people making low budget horror flicks at least do something like clads of tissue or something to make a gashing wound. The dialog was far from even decent and the acting was without direction or effort. They just threw some actors on a set and said, have at it. I swear i've seen better films from my film I class at school. How did this ever get a DVD release?

sully2161 Well, this movie certainly turned out NOT to be what I expected. I've read that the title was changed by the distributor. The end credits say "Look for Jim in Shelter 2", so I kind of assume this movie was meant to be called "Shelter" originally. Having said that, I very much enjoyed the movie. At first I thought I was watching one of the films my friends & I put together. But I quickly realized that the lines and movements were well thought out and deliberate. The editing was also quite impressive (I picked up a few tricks I want to try out). The Zombie Sequence in the middle was an interesting diversion, while providing some additional insight into the (intentionally) backgroundless characters. I would recommend viewing the film at least twice, with a sharp eye out the 2nd time around.
