Sam Panico December 5, 1492. Former bishop Niklas and his gang have gotten away with too much. The villagers have had it up to here with their antics, like looting and killing, so they kill them off. Yet for every year after that coincides with a full moon, they return as ghosts with murderous intent.The film then inverts all the holiday traditions of the Netherlands: Sinterklass is not a jolly fat man, he's a killer with a sharp staff that he won't hesitate to use. His elves, the Zwarte Pieten, don't have faces blackened from the soot of chimneys, but instead they have been burned alive.The last time the real Sinterklass came back was in 1968 and hundreds of people were killed, including the family of Goert, who is now a policeman. That traumatic event has been covered up by the authorities and the Catholic Church, who want Saint Nick to remain pure.With another full moon coming, Goert tries to ban all Sinterklaas events and increasing police manpower, but he's laughed off and sent on leave. But of course, Sinterklass arrives and brings horror with him.Directed by Dick Maas (The Lift, Amsterdamned), the film looks gorgeous, with a crushed black color palette and really intriguing angles. If a gore movie can be lush, then by all means, this is it. The scene where Sinterklass reveals himself to the children in the hospital, as well as a chase across the rooftops with Sinterklass on a horse, are just plain gorgeous. As we watch the evil saint fall through floor after floor of a building, then onto a police car, then stalk the hero, it really gets across just how frightening the villain is.Even watching the film in its native language, I was easily able to define the storytelling and stayed interested throughout. It was interesting to learn of another Christmas myth and then see the more malevolent side of it.

ASouthernHorrorFan So as an ongoing Christmas tradition I have been adding Christmas and Holiday based horror into my routine of baking candies and cookies and gluttony as well as classic Christmas cartoons. Well last night I sat down and watched Dick Maas' "Sint". Here is what I thought of the film.A fricking great story of Sinterklauss like never before! The whole celebration period around Dec. 5th tradition of having towns people dress as St. Nick and "Black Pete" a character that would never fly in American culture! Black Pete is basically white people in black face traipsing around town creating tom foolery as they accompany Saint Nicholas.Now here is were things get scary (Major Spoilers … ) This saint isn't as much as a savior as he is a demonic carnivore bend on raising a bloody holy apocalypse on the poor city of Amsterdam. He is undead, cursed and out for vengeance and you better lock your f*cking doors and cement in your fireplace and learn to slow your breathing to near death rates! He will get you and your children.I can honestly say that this story held my attention the entire time, well there was a brief moment when dear ole Nick was m.i.a in the film and it was more of a "find the bomber" type situation but very minimal amount of time. Soon the carnage began again. Oh and this slayer is very non discriminant in who he kills = Adults, teens and yes there is the splatter and screams of little children. "Sint" offers a very equal opportunity slayerific experience.The story was common as any other holiday horror. Promiscuous youths, urban legend and set ups familiar to any horror film. This film however is in the middle of a very active and modern city of the world and has moments were it is more like a "Mission Impossible" film than a slaughter film. Very reminiscent of when Jason took Manhattan. Some go almost unnoticed by the evil saint while others seem to be dead in his sites at all cost.This is a really good holiday film that offers more to any horror fans Christmas tradition. So if a Saint Nicholas eating and killing children and terrorizing town folk is right up your Evil Santa and Krampus parade filled affair then check this film out. However be warned your options are this – subtitled or dubbed in English. I chose the dubbed but think I would have experienced it more intensely in subtitle form.

rqwxyz Well, I liked Sint, I have to say, but in the way you like a film that's about something killing people left and right. The kills, in fact, are one the best things about Sint. They are fun and sometimes goofy but at the same time rather nasty and violent. Sint is what I'd call a lighthearted, fun slasher to have a nice time to, it even has some stupid teens for the Saint to play with and a bit of dark comedy at children's' expense.I do find some things to like beyond that, but not many. The very first part is really nice. The looks are kind of tale-ish and there's plenty of violence. The teens later at the beginning were annoying and the humor around them too stupid, but they are just like an introductory filling and stop bothering soon, and then, well, things get going driven through a functional plot that only takes away from the good things this film has scattered here and there.Sint Niklas iconography is indeed rather creepy. He's portrayed as a red-clad bishop wielding a golden and murderous-looking crosier riding a horse and accompanied by a bunch of brutal minions to deliver a maximum of killing and kidnapping. The scenes involving kids are amongst the best ones when there's no much killing going on.I just can say I liked it but I had my problems with it, although nothing really serious. Just watch it and have fun.

srfcazemier What I was expecting when I went into this movie was exactly what I got. Bad stuff vs. good stuff: There are somethings that are essential to the plot that are never explained, problems which could have been overcome with relative ease, so that was a bummer. Also, there are three main plots, and one of them, if it wasn't there I wouldn't miss it. Lastly, it is a short movie. This wouldn't be a point of criticism if it wasn't for the fact that it does tend to stretch itself out, like it was looking for feature length. The good stuff? It still is a lot of fun, being both original as well as something else compared to other St. Nicholas movies, the acting is good with most characters, the dialog is pretty solid, it's funny when it wants to be and scary when it needs to be. If you are into the St. Nocholas myth, you can't miss this one.
