Sara joins Julliard in New York to fulfill her and her mother's dream of becoming the Prima ballerina of the school. She befriends her roommates, Zoe and Miles, who teach hip-hop classes. She has ballet classes with the rigid and famous Monique Delacroix that she idolizes - Monique requires full commitment, discipline and hard work from her students. When Miles, who is a composer, invites Sara to help him compose the music for the dance choreography Sara's passion for hip-hop is sparked and she also falls in love with Miles. When she is assigned to perform Giselle in an important event, she feels divided between the technique of the ballet and the creative work offered by Miles.

Clevercell Very disappointing...
Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
vchimpanzee I don't remember anything about "Save the Last Dance", so I can evaluate this film on its own merits and not try to compare it. Still, once I read that Julia Stiles had been in the original I did remember she was very good, one of those actresses I like so much her name makes me want to watch whatever she is in, and I couldn't really compare Izabella Miko to her.But as I watched this, Miko was certainly good enough at acting and an excellent dancer. I can't say how good she is at hip-hop dancing because she had a stunt dancer according to the credits. Sara is rebellious but has to keep her impulses in check because she has to succeed at ballet. Still, she refuses to give up on making a difference in hip-hop, helping other dancers who can't seem to get it right without her.Several acting performances really stand out. Jacqueline Bisset is amazing. Intimidating, demanding, but also caring.Columbus Short doesn't disappoint as a teacher and ultimately romantic interest for Sara who sees a lot of potential in her, but his failed to live up to his own because he doesn't like being boxed in. He doesn't want that for Sara either.Aubrey Dollar is cute as Sara's roommate and provides much-needed comic relief.Tre Armstrong doesn't have much to do but her character really rhymes with witch. There was more potential for her which wasn't met, but her anger and jealousy add something.Yes, there is a formula here. This is JUILLIARD; what was he expecting? Our heroine is so talented she can get away with anything. And does. She may get the big part, but only if someone gets hurt. But she has the chance to make up for it in the end. Does she? I'll let you watch.
speedolstar I did not enjoy this movie at all. It is one of the worst sequels ever made. All they did was alter the first movie slightly, take out some of the conflict, throw in some different actors...The fact that they found another actress to play the same character was already a huge disappointment. And this was before I even started the movie. Facts pop out randomly and characters that started out in the story just disappeared because of lame reasons.I did not find the 'big finale' very interesting, meaning I had to sit through an hour and a half of drama that I'd already seen in the first movie, just so I could see the poorly done finish.
ladydiana0415 My daughter and I loved Save the Last Dance 1 (one of our favorite movies). When we saw there was a second one, we were so excited. We watched the movie through it's entirety, but at the end of the movie we were both very disappointed in the movie. The movie itself was good - but just knowing that it was a continuation of Sara's life, is what upset us over the movie. None of the original cast was in the second one (no one can take Julia Stiles place in that movie) and just the fact that everything that Sara and Derek went through in the first one just to be together - "they" decided to take a break from each other and date other people. The second one was a big let down. If the second one would have been about someone else's life - it would have been a great movie - on it's own.
mattkratz This wasn't too bad a movie. It was basically about following your dreams and dealing with adversity along the way. Although I had basically seen the movie before with different titles (if you get my meaning), I thought the movie was good. Izabella Miko was good in the lead role as she performed the dance scenes well. Those scenes, by the way, were spectacular! (especially the ballet scenes and the part at a night club) While the themes of the movie were familiar, I found this movie to be refreshing and a good way to spend less than an hour and a half. I would recommend it.** 1/2 out of ****
