An action-packed slog

Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

I wish I could take credit for that "original" summary line, but "unfortunately" someone else came up with it. And renamed this movie in the wake of "50 shades of Grey"! Name changes of movies are nothing out of the ordinary in Germany, which make people believe they are about to see a new movie or something that reminds them of something else (both in this case).Unfortunately the movie does not live up to any standards, has aged badly and you can't stop but wonder how and why Stanley Tucci got involved ... Well I guess there are worse things than working with K. Wuhrer of course, but still. The opening scene alone which reminded me a lot of people "acting" (I mean obvious acting as in: we are in a play or filming a scene - a movie within a movie kind of thing to boil it down), falls flat on its belly. The OTT (especially from the other male lead) is beyond ridiculous and unfortunately not even played for laughs, but very serious, which doesn't work at all.Not sure if I watched the unrated version, but there was nudity and even if there is or was more of that, it wouldn't have helped the movie either.

I used to remember every movie I watched. But concerning this one.. hmmm, I forgot watching it, till I ran into it on the IMDb pages lately. So, I'll try to remember. OK, I remember renting it in the year 2001. I remember that it was similar to a play I've read from Belgium about the same kind of triangle that this movie had. And I remember too that I hated Stanley Tucci, simply because he was doing the same silly character over and over again !! It shows that Mr. Tucci is a real die hard fan of being the immortal exquisite despicable; I watched him in (Life During Wartime – 1997), (A Midsummer Night's Dream – 1999), (Big Trouble – 2002), (The Core – 2003) doing nothing but the most stupid arrogant I have ever seen. Is it his talent which allows him to be just one character ? Or is it his reality ?!..I don't know. However the thing that I know very well that "Repetition is hell" ! I remember respecting the movie's desire to be different as independent film, and its expression about our material contemporary world with poor production which challenged much to survive. The last thing to remember : I have a real good memory so far, but when it comes to this movie I do not remember anything except what's above. And I believe in the theory which says that every human witnessed an event; he remembers – after a while of it – only the very things that enjoyed or bothered him. Well, I think I just applied that already.

An unusual piece of film work that was better conceived than executed. The narrative storyline belies and ambiguous framework that penetrates the interplay of marriage and subliminal sexual longings. Kari Wuhrur is outstanding and gorgeous in the character of the wife with the heart of gold -- driven by love, lust and the need to compensate for (or complete) her husband's distorted sense of priorities. Don't take the overt story to narrowly and a host of deeper purposes present themselves.

Stanley Tucci is terrific in this quirky little film. Very sexy. Very funny. A specific brand of comedy that only gets a chance in this kind of independent film. Acting is solid all around and the music is great.
